Rock ready for four-game weekend

The Slippery Rock softball team will play four PSAC West games this weekend with matchups on the road and the SRU Softball Complex. The Rock will travel to Greensburg, Pennsylvania to play Seton Hill Saturday, and return home Sunday for a doubleheader against Edinboro.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team will play four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division games this weekend with matchups on the road and the SRU Softball Complex. The Rock will travel to Greensburg, Pennsylvania to play Seton Hill University Saturday, and return home Sunday for a doubleheader against Edinboro University.

THE ROCK NOTES
  • ROCK SB SO FAR – Slippery Rock won its first game of the year before dropping eight straight to fall to 1-8. Since then, SRU has bounced back with a 10-6 mark over its last 16 games, which includes a 5-3 mark since returning from spring break. All three of those losses came by two runs or less.
  • TOP HITTERS – Four of SRU's players who have appeared in at least 20 contests this season are hitting above .300 including Megan Brown (.329), Caitlyn MacKelvey (.316), Aubrey Allen (.314) and Leah Vith (.313).
  • BROWN DOESN'T JUST HIT – Brown has not only been the team's top hitter, but also one of the biggest threats on the base paths this season in the PSAC. She is 15-for-16 in stolen bases which ranks her tied for fourth in the league.
  • WE WANT MOORE RUNS – Maggie Moore enters the weekend tied for first on the roster in RBI with 14.
  • THE HURLERS - Camie Shumaker enters the weekend with 11 complete games over 83.1 innings pitched with a 2.35 ERA and 67 strikeouts. Chloe Sharman has taken over the No. 2 starter role and carries a 3.61 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 52.1 innings of work.
  • ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SETON HILL – The Griffins own the all-time series record at 13-12 and have won three of the last five meetings.
  • ALL-TIME SERIES VS. EDINBORO – Edinboro owns a 73-60 edge in the all-time series that dates back to 1977. The Rock won three of the four meetings last spring and scored at least six runs in all four games.

GRIFFINS NOTES
  • Jenna Osikowicz is the team's top hitter batting .436 (34-for-78) with a home run and 13 RBI's.
  • Five other Griffins starters are hitting over .300 including Christiana Skrabak (.337), Brooke Bower (.326), Alexis Vargas (.317), Chelsea Rohan (.313) and Devyn Terry (.305).
  • SHU has a team ERA of 3.23 with Terry leading the charge tallying a 2.69 ERA and a 9-4 record this year. Skyla Greco has aided in the circle as well posting a 3.18 ERA and a 7-5 record.

FIGHTING SCOTS NOTES
  • Edinboro is batting .297 as a team with four players hitting above .300. They are led by Olivia Jankowski at .492 with nine doubles, three homers and 19 RBI's.
  • Danna Heh (.373), Victoria Allocco (.352) and Roni Lipinski (.308) round out the .300 hitters.
  • Carley Nasca (2.86 ERA, 48 Ks in 71.0 IP) and Amanda Metz (3.19 ERA, 56 Ks in 59.1 IP) combined for a 3.01 ERA entering the weekend.
UP NEXT
SRU will take a break from PSAC West games when it travels to Pittsburgh Wednesday, April 10 for a pair of contests at Point Park University. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
