Â
QUICK HITS
• Slippery Rock enters the game looking to snap a season-long three-game losing streak while Shepherd welcomes The Rock after having won seven of its first eight games to start the season.
Â
• The Shepherd game is the second of a six-game road trip that runs from Nov. 30 - Jan. 3 for Slippery Rock.
Â
• Quick starts and taking care of the basketball have proven critical for Slippery Rock through the early stages of the 2019-20 season. SRU is 1-5 when heading into halftime trailing and 1-4 when it commits more turnovers than the opposition.
Â
• Keys to a Rock victory on the road include limiting Shepherd's 3-pointers, winning the rebounding battle and prioritizing ball control. The Rams enter the game leading the PSAC in 3-pointers made (69) and ranking fifth in turnovers forced per game (19.5), but just 17th in the league in rebounds per game (30.5).
Â
• Slippery Rock ranks third in the PSAC in free throw shooting percentage at .770. Nine of the 10 Rock players to attempt a foul shot this season are shooting at least 70 percent from the free throw line including the quartet of
Brooke Hinderliter,
LeeAnn Gibson,
Madison Johnson and
Daeja Quick; the core of SRU's team are a combined 111-for-138 (.804) at the foul line this year.
Â
TIFFIN RECAP
A 24-13 run in the third quarter proved to be the difference in an 83-73 loss for Slippery Rock on the road at Tiffin Nov. 30.
Â
Hinderliter led four Rock players in double figures with a team-best 18 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and one block. Quick and Johnson added 14 points apiece with Quick also accounting for five rebounds, five assists and one steal. Gibson rounded out SRU's leading scorers with 11 points to go with a pair of steals.
Â
CROSSOVER SUCCESS
This weekend's game is the third of six crossover games that Slippery Rock will play against the PSAC East this season. These games will count towards the league standings and could play a huge role in deciding which teams make the PSAC Tournament and which stay at home at the end of the season.
Â
Slippery Rock has been solid recently in crossover games under head coach
Bobby McGraw. Slippery Rock is 17-12 (.586) against its PSAC East counterparts over the last six years.
Â
DEFENDING THE 3
Slippery Rock has done a stellar job of keeping opponents in check from 3-point range this season. Over the last six games, teams are shooting just 23.1 percent (24-for-104) from distance against The Rock and have made more than five triples in a game just once. The PSAC average for 3-point field goal percentage defense this season is 32.3 percent.
Â
TOP SCORING DUO IN THE PSAC WEST
Hinderliter (17.7 ppg) and Johnson (16.1 ppg) rank ninth and 13th, respectively, in the PSAC in scoring this season. No other team in the PSAC West has two players ranked in the top 15 in the league in scoring.
Â
SRU has not had two players average at least 16 points per game in the same year since Jackie Altenweg (18.6) and Shelbey Wardman (16.6) in 2001-02.
Â
HINDERLITER CONTINUES TO CLIMB ALL-TIME POINTS LIST
Hinderliter enters the Shepherd game ranked eighth in program history for points in a career with 1,325 following her 18-point showing at Tiffin.
Â
Hinderliter, who is averaging 17.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game on the season, is on pace to finish her career with 1,697 points which would rank second all-time at The Rock.
Â
She is 19 points away from surpassing Stacey Green (2001-05 / 1,329) and Beth Dansberger (1992-96 / 1,343) and moving into sixth place in program history for points in a career.
Â
HANDLING THE LEAD GUARD DUTIES
Quick has done a great job of running The Rock's offense for the majority of the season. Outside of a four-assist, seven-turnover game against Shippensburg, Quick has dished out 22 assists while making just nine turnovers in The Rock's other six games this season while also scoring 11.7 points per game.
Â
For the year, she ranks ninth in the PSAC in assist-turnover ratio (1.6).
Â
CONSISTENCY ON THE GLASS
One thing that is almost a given for the 2019-20 Slippery Rock women's basketball team is that Gibson,
Anyah Curd and
Karington Ketterer will more than likely pull down at least five rebounds each in games.
Â
Gibson, The Rock's leading rebounder this season at 7.0 rpg, has pulled down five or more rebounds in four of her five games played this season in addition to scoring 8.8 points per game and coming away with 1.2 steals a contest.
Â
Just a freshman, Curd has corralled five rebounds in five of the first seven games of her collegiate career to go with 5.4 points and 1.0 blocks per game. Curd is also coming off of her second-highest point total of the year after going for nine points against Tiffin.
Â
Ketterer has come up with five rebounds in four of seven games, including each of the last three contests, to raise her season average to 5.3 rebounds per game. She also scores 4.0 points per game while making just under one steal per game.
Â
No. 2 FRESHMAN SHOT BLOCKER IN PSAC WEST
Curd will enter the weekend ranked 11th overall in the PSAC in blocked shots with seven rejections. Curd is one of two freshmen from PSAC West schools to be ranked in the top-15 in the conference overall in blocked shots with the other being California's Olivia Hudson, who has 10 blocks this season.
Â
LIMITING THE TURNOVERS
After averaging 18 turnovers over its previous five games, Slippery Rock cut down on the miscues and committed just 13 turnovers against Tiffin.
Â
While SRU still lost to the Dragons, the lack of turnovers have historically led to good results as 31 of The Rock's wins over the last six years have occurred when they have committed 15 turnovers or less.
Â
NEWEST MEMBER OF THE 500-500 CLUB ON DECK
Hinderliter is two rebounds away from becoming the 16th player in program history to record 500 points and 500 rebounds in her career. Hinderliter already has 1,325 points and is currently sitting at 493 rebounds. When Hinderliter records seven more rebounds she would become just the third player in the last decade, along with
D'Asia Chambers and
Morgan Henderson, to join the 500-500 Club at SRU.
Â
Fellow classmate Gibson also has a shot of joining the 500 / 500 club as well. Gibson heads into the Shepherd game needing 11 points and 136 rebounds to eclipse the 500 / 500 plateau. The 136 rebounds breaks down to 6.5 rebounds per game over the remainder of the season.
Â
RECORDS WATCH
With virtually her entire senior season still in front of her,
Brooke Hinderliter's name is littered throughout The Rock's career record book. She comes into the weekend ranked second in program history in free throws made (365), third in offensive rebounds (204), eighth in minutes played (2,640), eighth in points scored (1,325), 17th in total rebounds (498), 17th in steals (104), 22nd in blocks (25) and 22nd in assists (171).
Â
LeeAnn Gibson ranks seventh in program history in offensive rebounds (156), 19th in career foul shots made (166), 22nd in defensive rebounds (208) and 21st in minutes played (1,809).
Â
Madison Johnson is 20th in offensive rebounds (101) and 22nd in FTs (157).
Â

Through the first 91 games of her career,
Brooke Hinderliter ranks 12th among all active players in the NCAA, regardless of division, in career free throw shooting percentage at .835 (365-for-437).
