Rock looks to clinch top seed in PSAC West on Senior Day

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will look to clinch the No. 1 seed in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division for the upcoming conference tournament on Senior Day 1 p.m. Saturday vs. Edinboro University at James Egli Field. 
 
SENIOR DAY
Prior to Saturday's contest against Edinboro, Slippery Rock will honor the 2019 senior class of Kaitlyn Barackman, Miranda Gallucci, Madison Johnson and Tyler Spence for their contributions to the program.

LAST MEETING
Edinboro defeated Slippery Rock, 2-1, at home in overtime. The Fighting Scots opened the scoring in the 46th minute when Brittnie Spithaler scored her fourth goal of the season to give EU the 1-0 advantage.
 
SRU tied the score at 1-1 in the 76th minute when Rachel Edge played a pass from Shannon McIntyre through the Edinboro defense and into the goal, sending the contest to overtime.
 
In the first overtime period, Danielle Chatten netted a pass from Spithaler in the 94th minute to give Edinboro the 2-1 overtime victory.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock leads the all-time series 20-5-8. SRU owns a 9-4-2 record in home games against Edinboro.
 
Over the last 10 matchups with the Fighting Scots, The Rock owns a 5-2-3 record while outscoring EU 12-10.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• LAST TIME OUT – Slippery Rock defeated California University (Pa.), 4-0, on the road. SRU dominated the contest on both sides of the ball, recording 24 total shots while allowing only one. 
 
The Rock opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Sofia Harrison looped a shot over California keeper Carly Gobbie to give Slippery Rock the 1-0 lead. 
 
Edge took over the contest in the second half, scoring three-straight goals in the 68th, 70th and 87th minute to secure a 4-0 road victory for SRU.
 
• REGIONAL RANKINGS – Slippery Rock was ranked third in the Atlantic Region by the NCAA Division ll Women's Soccer Committee in the first set of NCAA regional rankings. 
 
The regional rankings are the only official ranking used by the NCAA to determine which teams from each of the eight regions will qualify for the 56-team NCAA Division ll playoffs.
 
The regional rankings will be released on Wednesday over each of the next two weeks of the season before the final selections are unveiled Monday, Nov. 18. Six of the eight teams in the initial rankings released Wednesday are from the PSAC with the other two spots going to teams from the Mountain East Conference.
 
Eight teams will be ranked each week in the Atlantic Region with the top-six teams in the final set of rankings advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The PSAC Tournament and MEC Tournament champions will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.
 
PSAC PLAYOFF PICTURE – With the win over California, Slippery Rock (36 points) increased its lead in the PSAC Western Division standings to six points over Edinboro (30 points).
 
Mercyhurst University is in third place with 22 points followed by Indiana University (Pa.) with 21 points. Gannon University (20 points) is in fifth place and Seton Hill University has 18 points, good enough for sixth place.
 
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is in seventh place with 12 points followed by Clarion University with 10 points. Cal U.  rounds out the division standings with seven points.
 
At the end of the season, the top-four teams based on point total in both the PSAC West and PSAC East will advance to the conference tournament.
 
• CLINCH – SRU can clinch the No. 1 seed in the PSAC Western Division, and the right to host the PSAC Tournament semi-final and final round with a win over Edinboro on Saturday. 

If Slippery Rock were to clinch the top seed in the PSAC West, it would be for the first time since 2007. The conference switched from divisions a single conference standings format following the 2009 season before returning to the division format this season.
 
The last PSAC championship for The Rock came in 2012.
 
• IN THE RECORD BOOKS – With her three-goal performance against Cal U., Edge became the first Rock women's soccer player since Nicole Krueger and Tess Keeley in 2014 to record a hat trick along with being the 18th in program history.
 
• ROCK SOLID DEFENSE – The SRU defense turned in its sixth shutout performance of the season in its win against Cal U., tied for the second-most in the PSAC West this season with Edinboro. Mercyhurst leads the division in shutouts with eight this year.
 
Slippery Rock has allowed one goal or fewer in 14 of its 16 games this season. Among conference leaders in goals allowed, SRU ranks fourth with 12 along with ranking fourth in opponents scoring average at 0.71 goals per game.
 
• KEEPER COUNT – Rock goalkeeper Emma Yoder turned in her sixth solo-shutout of the season in the 4-0 win over California, facing only one shot, tied for the third-most among conference leaders.
 
This season, Yoder has a .831 save percentage along with a 0.74 goals against average and 59 saves.
 
• PSAC LEADERS – This season, Edge leads the PSAC in points with 35 while being tied for the conference-lead in goals with IUP's Mahogany Willis at 14. She is tied with teammate Kayla Swope for second in the PSAC with seven assists along with second in total shots (64) and shots on goal (38).
 
Jordyn Minda is tied for second in game-winning goals among conference leaders with four this season along with being tied for third in assists with McIntyre at five.
 
Among PSAC goalkeepers, Yoder is fourth in goals against average and sixth in save percentage.
 
As a team, Slippery Rock is fourth in scoring average at 2.6 goals per game while having the fourth best scoring margin at +1.94. SRU has scored the most goals in the conference this season at 45 while adding the second most total shots at 312.
 
• HOME SWEET HOME – Slippery Rock returns home after a two-game road trip. SRU has a 6-1-0 record in home games this season, averaging 3.4 goals per game while allowing just 0.7 goals per game. Over the past five seasons, SRU has a 30-12-2 record in games played at home.
 
• SCORING MACHINE – SRU has made scoring two or more goals in a game this season a regular occurrence, accomplishing the feat 12 times in 2019.
 
The Rock has tallied four or more goals in a game six times this season, the most in the PSAC ahead of Bloomsburg University and Millersville University who are tied for second with four.
 
• WINS RECORD – With wins in each of its last two games, Slippery Rock would tie the program record for wins in a regular season at 15 with the 2013 Rock women's soccer squad. 
 
• TAKE TWO – Slippery Rock has been found success in games when it scores two or more times this season. When SRU nets two or more goals, The Rock has an undefeated 12-0-0 record. In contests when it scores less than two times, it has a 1-3-0 mark.
 
• BOUNCE BACK – With the win over Cal U., Slippery Rock improves its record over the past 10 seasons following a loss to 31-9-2 while outscoring opponents 84-29 in those contests.
 
• AGAINST EDINBORO – Edge, Barackman, and Johnson lead the way for SRU against Edinboro with one career goal each.
 
• ROUNDING OUT THE ATTACK – Harrison, Spence and Swope are tied for third in goals with five this season for SRU while McIntyre has three scores in 2019. Georgia Nagucki has two goals while Katy Ericson, Ashley Rea and Brooke Riefenstahl round out the scoring attack for SRU with one goal apiece.
 
Swope is now tied with Edge for the team-lead in assists while Minda and McIntyre are tied for second with five each this season. Spence is next with three assists followed by Barackman, Gallucci, Reifenstahl and Julia Mascaro with two assists apiece.
 
THIS WEEK IN ROCK HISTORY
• Nov. 7, 2001 – No. 25 SRU defeats No. 16 Bloomsburg on the road, 1-0. The win marked the first NCAA Tournament victory for SRU in program history, Slippery Rock would finish the season ranked No. 14 in the nation.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING SCOTS
• Last time out: Edinboro fell on the road to Gannon, 1-0. The game was a defensive battle throughout, with neither side allowing a score until the 83rd minute when Leah Bermudez scored her second goal of the season to secure a 1-0 victory for the Golden Knights.
 
• The Fighting Scots are led on offense by Danielle Chatten and Brittnie Spithaler who have five goals apiece while also being tied for the team-lead in assists with five each. Rebecca Manns is second for EU with three goals and three assists this season.
 
• In goal for Edinboro this season, Anna Voelker has an .844 save percentage along with a 0.93 goals against average and 76 saves.
