EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's indoor track and field team recorded 18 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, two NCAA provisional marks and won a dominant eight events at the Al Hall Freedom Games hosted by Edinboro University Saturday.

The NCAA marks came from
Caleb Smithco in the triple jump and
JJ Ollio in the shot put. Smithco made his return to the triple jump after a year away from the event while he dealt with injuries. He showed little rust, winning the event with a leap of 14.61 meters. Ollio continued his strong form in the shot put with a winning mark of 16.60 meters, marking his third straight meet with at least the NCAA provisional standard. Ollio also placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 16.51 meters.

Smithco was joined by four other SRU athletes in reaching the PSAC mark in the triple jump as SRU dominated the event.
Josiah Davis was second with a mark of 13.84 meters, followed by
Jason Goodman in fourth (13.42m),
Ethan McGinnis in fifth (13.00m) and
Mitch Vleminckx in sixth (12.92m). Vleminckx also won the long jump with a mark of 6.30 meters, which was shy of the PSAC standard.

Ollio was joined in reaching the PSAC mark in the shot put by
John Eakin, who made his SRU track and field debut by placing second with a mark of 14.45 meters.

The top field event performances were capped by a trio of PSAC qualifiers in the high jump.
Josiah Davis placed second with a clearance of 1.95 meters, followed by
Seth Armstrong in third (1.85m) and McGinnis in fifth (1.85m)

On the track,
Collin Darby led the way with a pair of wins in the short sprints. He took the top spot in the 200-meter dash in 22.45 seconds and won the 60-meter dash in 7.01 seconds. Darby was joined in the 60m by
Jeff Bailey, who placed third (7.09),
Nathan Kibbie in fourth (7.13) and
Parker Reed in sixth (7.20).

Daniel Janyska led the mid-distance runners with a win in the mile in 4:26.99. Troy Shattuck also won the 800-meter race in 2:00.19, just off the PSAC standard.

The final PSAC mark of the meet belonged to
Zach Wise, who placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.76 seconds.

Slippery Rock will travel to Youngstown State next Friday and Saturday for the two-day YSU National Invite.
