SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University track and field program has announced that the Dave Labor Invitational, scheduled for Saturday, April 7 at SRU, has been canceled due to inclement weather.
Â
More than 60 teams and 1,100 athletes were scheduled to compete in the Dave Labor Invitational, but heavy winds, frigid temperatures, snow and rain has forced the cancellation of the meet.
Â
"We were really looking forward to welcoming such a large group of student-athletes to our campus this weekend," said head coach
John Papa. "Unfortunately, this weather makes it not only unpleasant, but also very dangerous to compete in many track and field events, so this is the best decision for the safety of all of the athletes."
Â
Slippery Rock is still scheduled to host two home meets this spring with the SRU Open on April 19 and the PSAC Championships May 3-5.
Â
The Rock will now turn their focus to a trio of meets next week. The multi-event athletes will head to Kutztown to compete in the Mondschein Multi Meet April 12-13, the distance runners and some other top athletes will travel to Bucknell for the Bison Outdoor Classic April 14-15 and the rest of the team will travel to Westminster College for a meet April 14.
