Girgash, Keane lead multis at Kutztown

Steven Girgash won the Gold Division of the decathlon and Kaelyn Keane placed third in the Gold Division of the heptathlon to lead The Rock multi-event athletes at the Mondschein Multi meet at Kutztown.

Final Results

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Steven Girgash won the Gold Division of the decathlon and Kaelyn Keane placed third in the Gold Division of the heptathlon to lead the Slippery Rock University track and field teams at the Mondschein Multi Meet that concluded Friday evening from Kutztown University.

Girgash was mostly unchallenged on the way to winning the Gold Division after posting a score of 6,010 points over the 10 events. He had a commanding lead after the first day of competition and cruised to the win Friday.

Dylan Colcombe placed third in the Gold Division of the decathlon with 5,731 points, while Erick Lee placed 11th in the deeper Maroon Division with 5,606 points to cap the men's performances.

All three of those final scores should be good enough to qualify for the PSAC Championships the first week of May, as the league accepts the top 16 marks for the season and entering this weekend only one athlete had recorded a mark.

Girgash also hit the PSAC standard in two individual events during the decathlon, including the 100-meter dash (11.07 seconds) and the high jump (1.89m), and just barely missed the PSAC standard in the long jump (6.50m) with his leap of 6.49m.

Colcombe hit the PSAC standard in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.45 meters.

On the women's side, Keane led the two Slippery Rock entries to top five finishes in the Gold Division of the heptathlon with a third place finish with 3,453 points. Asia Broaddus followed close behind in fourth place with 3,368 points.

Those two scores currently rank seventh and eighth in the PSAC and should be good enough to qualify both women for a spot in the PSAC meet the first week of May.

The rest of the Slippery Rock track and field teams are splitting time this weekend between two meets, with a group of 15 athletes heading to Bucknell University Saturday and Sunday and more than 85 others traveling to Westminster College Saturday.
