Â
PSAC OPENER HISTORY
Slippery Rock is 20-22 in its first PSAC games of the season all-time.
Â
FIRST QUARTER STRUGGLES / LATE SUCCESS
Slippery Rock has suffered from slow starts for the majority of the season. Out of its six games this season, SRU has been outscored in the first quarter of games five times. SRU is averaging 13.3 points in the first quarter this year while allowing 20.7. Â While SRU has struggled to score points early in games this season, it has totaled 117 points in both the third and fourth quarters (19.5 points per quarter).
Â
SCOUTING THE ROCK
• Junior guard
Brooke Hinderliter is off to a great start to the year. Through The Rock's first six games she is averaging 17.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and 82.1 percent from the free throw line.
Â
• Redshirt senior guard
Ciara Patterson has served as The Rock's second scoring option through the early stages of 2018-19 with an 11.7 points per game average thanks in large part to a team-best 14 made 3-pointers. Defensively, Patterson leads all Rock athletes with 1.8 steals per game.
Â
• Sophomore guard
Daeja Quick has scored at least 13 points two of The Rock's last three games to boost her season average to 11.0 points per game. Quick, who has started SRU's last two games after coming on as a reserve to start the season, has also passed out a team-high 3.2 assists per game in addition to totaling 1.5 steals per game.
Â
• One of Slippery Rock's few true post options, senior forward
Morgan Henderson is fourth on the team in scoring at 8.2 points per game and second in rebounding with 5.3 rebounds a contest. Her 45.7 field goal percentage also ranks second for The Rock. Henderson has played in 90 career games and barring unforeseen circumstances will become one of just 24 players in program history to play in at least 100 games by the end of her career.
Â
• Redshirt junior guard
Madison Johnson is one of four Rock players to have started all six games this season and is the team's fifth leading scorer (6.3 ppg), and third best rebounder (3.0 rpg).
Â
• Off the bench, junior forward
Karington Ketterer has blocked five shots and is tied with Johnson for third on The Rock's rebounding ledger with 3.0 boards per game.
Â
ROCK ACROSS THE PSAC LEADERBOARD
As a team, Slippery Rock ranks third in the PSAC in turnovers per game (13.8), fourth in turnover margin (+4.50), seventh in opponent turnovers per game (18.3), seventh in field goal percentage (.696) and 10th in scoring (67.2).
Â
ROCK INDIVIDUALS AMONG THE PSAC'S BEST
Hinderliter ranks seventh in the PSAC in field goal percentage, eighth in free throw percentage, ninth in scoring and 17th in rebounding.
Â
Patterson is 10th in the league in 3-pointers made and 3-pointers made per game (2.3) as well as coming in 14th in the conference in steals per game.
Â
Kettterer's five blocks are the 10th most by a PSAC player so far this season while Quick's 3.2 assists per game rank 15th in the league.
Â
LAST MEETING vs. EAST STROUDSBURG
Hinderliter and Henderson both contributed greatly in The Rock's 70-66 victory at East Stroudsburg on Jan. 14, 2017. Hinderliter posted 13 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists while Henderson chipped in six points and five rebounds off the bench.
Â
HOPSON'S BIG DAY
A bright spot for Slippery Rock in its loss to nationally ranked Ashland was the play of freshman guard
Marissa Hopson. In just nine minutes on the court, Hopson went for nine points and made a great no-look assist in the paint. The points were the first of Hopson's career.
Â
ELITE COMPANY
Both Henderson and Hinderliter are on the cusp of etching their names alongside some of the top players in program history as both players are on pace to reach the 500 career point / 500 career rebound plateau this season. To date, only 14 Rock players have reached the elusive milestone all-time.
Â
Henderson will enter PSAC play with 603 points and 433 rebounds with Hinderliter close behind at 793 points and 354 rebounds.
Â
RECORDS WATCH
The Rock's veteran trio of Hinderliter, Henderson and Patterson will be working their way up several SRU career record lists as the 2018-19 season progresses.
Â
Just a junior, Hinderliter currently ranks fifth in school history in career offensive rebounds (152), eighth in free throws made (241) and 25th in points scored (793).
Â
SRU's lone four-year senior, Henderson is ninth all-time in offensive rebounds (135), 11th in defensive rebounds (298), 12th in blocks (44) and 25th in total rebounds (433).
Â
A gifted shooter, Patterson has needed just 45 games in a Slippery Rock uniform to make 95 3-pointers, the 10th most in program history.
Â
LONG HOMESTAND ON DECK
Following The Rock's game at East Stroudsburg, SRU will embark on a five-game homestand from Dec. 8 – Jan. 2 against West Chester (Dec. 8), Salem (Dec. 17), Lock Haven (Dec. 18), Bloomsburg (Dec. 19) and Seton Hill (Jan. 2).
Â
In documented program history, which dates back to the 1976-77 seasons, there have been just four instances of Slippery Rock playing more consecutive home games in the regular season than it will this year: 2006-07 (nine), 2014-15 (seven), 1985-86 (seven) and 2005-06 (six).
