SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's volleyball team will host its annual Dig for the Cure match 7 p.m. Oct. 23 against regional rival West Liberty University at Morrow Field House.

Leading up to the contest, and throughout the day as well as during the match, members of The Rock volleyball team will accept donations and pledges per dig for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC). All proceeds will go directly to the PBCC.

Founded in June of 1993, the PBCC is an organized statewide non-profit organization designed to extend public awareness of breast cancer and to encourage increased public and private funding for research, legislative advocacy and high quality screening, diagnosis and treatment.

The Rock averages 17.8 digs per set and a match is the best of five sets; therefore, the dig total could be anywhere between 60-100 digs. The dig total will be tallied and announced at the end of the match so anyone that donated a pledge per dig will know the amount to be donated to the PBCC.

Fans not wishing to pledge per dig can make a flat donation before, during, or after the match in person by clicking HERE

Along with the pledges to raise money, fans will also be able to partake in a serving contest between the second and third sets of the match. For any dollar amount starting at $1, fans will have the chance to serve from behind the serving line. Prizes will be placed on the floor and any serve that hits a prize will win that prize. Rock Volleyball parents will also be holding a bake sale before and during the match as well as running a 50/50 raffle with proceeds going directly to the PBCC.

The team will also honor any breast cancer survivors and/or those currently battling the disease in attendance by welcoming them onto the court and announcing their names. Any survivors/fighters that plan to attend the match can contact SRU assistant coach Erin Street, before the match at the contact information below. An announcement will also be made prior to the start of the match welcoming survivors/fighters down to the floor to be recognized.

To make a pledge per dig before the match see any member of the volleyball team or contact Street (erin.street@sru.edu / 724.738.4960).
