Sierra Fordham scored 15 points while
Brooke Hinderliter added 12 points and seven rebounds in the win (
Box Score).
• A win on Saturday would be Slippery Rock's third four-game winning streak under head coach
Bobby McGraw. SRU had just one four-game winning streak in the 12 years prior to McGraw's arrival.
• Slippery Rock enters the Edinboro game with a 10-7 record overall and an 8-4 mark in the PSAC West, which is good enough for fifth in the division standings and one game behind Seton Hill University for fourth place. SRU is on pace to qualify for the PSAC Tournament for the first time since the 2014-15 season and just the second time in the last 12 years.
• While there are still 10 games to play in the regular season, this year's team has positioned itself to do something that has not been done at Slippery Rock in the last 17 years – finish the regular season with a winning record. While SRU has much greater ambitions for this season, If The Rock were to go 4-6 over the remainder of the year they would finish with a 14-13 record. The last time SRU had a winning record at the end of the season was in 2001-02 (15-12).
• Three of The Rock's next four games will come against teams ranked in the most recent Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Top-25 poll (#17 Edinboro, #2 Indiana and #14 California).
• SRU is a perfect 8-0 this season when leading at halftime and 5-1 when committing fewer turnovers than its opponents.
• As a team, Slippery Rock ranks third in the PSAC in rebounding. SRU is the only school in the PSAC that has six players averaging at least 4.5 rebounds per game in Hinderliter (6.7),
Krista Pietropola (5.8),
Morgan Henderson (5.2),
Mallory Heinle (4.6),
Madison Johnson (4.5) and
LeeAnn Gibson (4.5).
• Fordham has been on a tear as of late for The Rock with back-to-back career-high matching 15-point games against Mansfield and Pitt-Johnstown. Over SRU's winning streak, Fordham is shooting 54.2 percent (13-for-24) from the field to score 11.3 points per game in addition to 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals a contest.
• With per game averages of 14.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game, Hinderliter is the only player in the PSAC to average at least 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
• Johnson is The Rock's second leading scorer with 10.8 points a contest. She came off the bench for just the second time this season to give SRU 10 crucial points in the win at Pitt-Johnstown. She has reached double figure point totals in three straight games.
• Pietropola has made eight of her last 17 3-point attempts during SRU's winning streak. She is averaging 10.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game over The Rock's three-game streak.
• Freshman
Skyla O'Connor's 21 steals are a team-high this season. O'Connor has accounted for 10 steals over The Rock's last six games.
• Despite an off night at Pitt-Johnstown, Henderson still ranks third for The Rock in scoring (8.3 ppg), third in rebounding (5.2 rpg) and second in total blocks (12) in addition to shooting a team-high 50.5 percent (52-for-103) from the field.
• Saturday's game will be the 99th of Heinle's career. Barring any unforeseen setbacks, Heinle will finish her time at Slippery Rock as one of just four players in school history to play at least 108 games. She currently ranks seventh in program history in career offensive rebounds (136), 12th in defensive rebounds (282), 14th in total blocks (39), 16th in total minutes played (1,931) and 20th in 3-pointers made (55).
