Rock looks to end slide vs. Clarion

Slippery Rock will look to snap its three-game losing streak with a PSAC West victory against Clarion Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team will look to snap its three-game losing streak with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division victory against Clarion University Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Morrow Field House.

Slippery Rock has swept the season series against Clarion in each of the last two years to improve its record against the Golden Eagles to 39-37 all-time. Slippery Rock is 21-16 against Clarion in games played at Morrow Field House.

Slippery Rock overcame 15 first-half turnovers and outscored Clarion 22-8 in the fourth quarter to earn a 71-54 win against the Golden Eagles in PSAC West competition Feb. 17, 2016 at Morrow Field House. Lexi Carpenter led The Rock with 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Mallory Heinle came off the bench to score 12 points and grab five rebounds while Morgan Henderson just missed out on a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
Last time out: Slippery Rock lost at No. 8 California (Pa.), 96-65.  Heinle and C.C. Dixon scored 13 points each for The Rock while Brooke Hinderliter and Cassidy Wright added 11 points apiece. (Box Score)
 
• Slippery Rock has played arguably the toughest schedule in the PSAC West this season. Slippery Rock's 15 opponents this year have combined for a 117-83 record. SRU's opponent winning percentage of 58.5 percent is the second highest in the PSAC West behind only Gannon (107-75, 58.8 percent).
 
• Slippery Rock leads the PSAC in free throw shooting percentage (.745) and its 242 made foul shots are the second most of any team in the league.
 
• Carpenter currently ranks fifth in the PSAC in scoring at 16.8 points per game and fourth in assists per game (4.9) as well as averaging team-bests in steals per game (1.3) and blocks per game (0.6). Carpenter, who was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line against IUP on Jan. 6, also ranks second in the PSAC in foul shooting percentage at .882.
 
• Hinderliter, who has been named the PSAC West Freshman of the Week four times already this season, has scored 12.8 points per game over The Rock's last five contests to raise her season average up to 9.8 ppg.
 
• Wright's 11 points against California (Pa.) were a season-high. She has made eight out of her last 15 3-point attempts (53.3 percent) and is tied for second on The Rock with Carpenter in 3-pointers made on the year with 14.
  
• Heinle is The Rock's third leading scorer (7.9 ppg) and its top rebounder with 6.4 rebounds per night. Against California, Heinle matched a career-high with three made 3-pointers.
 
Krista Pietropola's 27 made 3-pointers are the 12th most of any player in the PSAC this season. The Rock's fourth leading scorer at 7.5 points per game, Pietropola has accounted for 35 percent of Slippery Rock's 3-pointers this season.
 
• Henderson has started all 15 games for The Rock in 2016-17 and currently ranks second on the team in rebounds (6.3 per game) and fourth in scoring (7.4 points per game).
 
• Dixon has been The Rock's most efficient player for SRU this season, shooting 52.4 percent from the field overall and 81.3 percent from the free throw line. For the year, Dixon is averaging 6.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Dixon's 30 offensive rebounds are a team-high as well.

Sierra Fordham made her second start of the season against California. She had a season-high five rebounds in 24 minutes.

Last time out: Clarion lost to Seton Hill, 92-75. Tyra Polite scored a team-high 21 points, and was followed closely by Jordan Bekelja (17) and Amesha Harden-Pullium (16). (Box Score)
 
• Polite leads the Golden Eagles with per game averages of 17.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
 
• Polite, who averaged 14.5 points per game in two contests against Slippery Rock last season, has scored at least 20 points in each of Clarion's last four games.
 
• Clarion ranks second in the PSAC in scoring with 73.8 points per game. Clarion's 139 made 3-pointers are a league-best.
 
• Quorea Pearyer (12.6), Harden-Pullium (10.6) and Beklja (10.6) all average at least 10 points per game as well.
