SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition this weekend with back-to-back road games at Millersville University and Shippensburg University.
 
The Rock first plays at Millersville 1 p.m. Friday followed by a match at Shippensburg 4 p.m. Saturday.

LAST MEETING WITH MILLERSVILLE
Kristin Lepley scored a breakaway goal just five minutes into the opening half for what would turn out to be the game-winning score for Millersville in its 1-0 win at Slippery Rock on Sept. 11, 2015. Dara Demich and Andrea Felix accounted for six of The Rock's seven shots on goal.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs. MILLERSVILLE
Slippery Rock has controlled the series with Millersville historically having won 16 of 21 matches between the schools all-time, but the Marauders have took the last two games in the series with a 2-0 win in 2014 and the aforementioned 1-0 victory a season ago. SRU is 6-3 in games played at Millersville.

LAST MEETING AGAINST SHIPPENSBURG
Slippery Rock earned a spot in the PSAC Tournament semifinals when Demich finished off a long run in the 108th minute by converting her 12th goal of the season to give The Rock a 1-0 double-overtime victory over the Raiders in the opening round of the 2015 conference tournament on Nov. 3, 2015. Charlotte Elrod made five saves for her eighth solo shutout of her freshman season.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs. SHIPPENSBURG
Slippery Rock has lost just once to Shippensburg dating back to the 2007 season and is 12-6-4 overall against the Raiders all-time. SRU is 3-0-2 against Shippensburg since the Raiders' last win against The Rock in 2012. Saturday's game will be Slippery Rock's first at Shippensburg since it tied the then 22nd ranked Raiders 1-1 on Nov. 2, 2013. Four of the last five games in the series have went to overtime.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• Last time out: No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan netted a goal 1:34 into regulation on the way to a 1-0 win against The Rock in non-conference play at James Egli Field.
 
• While SRU's 0-2 start is unfortunate there is still plenty of time left for The Rock to turn the season around. The last time Slippery Rock started the year winless through two games came in 2014 when it was 0-1-1 before it promptly won 11 of its next 13 games to set itself up nicely for a postseason run.  
 
• Slippery Rock is 18-5 in PSAC openers all-time.
 
• This weekend's games begin a string of four straight road contests for The Rock. Slippery Rock is 16-7-3 (.673) in regular season away games over the last three years and 135-88-22 (.596) all-time.
 
• Brooke Testa has scored The Rock's only goal this season and is also tied for the team lead in shots on goal with Skye Kramer at two apiece.
 
• Elrod and Kylie Downs have each started one game this season. Downs earned her first collegiate start against West Virginia Wesleyan, stopping four shots and allowing one goal over 90 minutes.
 
• In two starts against Shippensburg last season Elrod did not allow a goal and made nine saves. She stopped two shots and gave up one goal in the loss against Millersville.
 
• Demich has two goals and six shots on goal over her career against Millersville. Other top performers against Millersville over their careers include Felix (three shots on goal), Maddy Tletski (one shot on goal), Sam Thornton (one shot on goal) and Testa (one shot on goal).
 
• Four different Rock players have scored goals against Shippensburg throughout their careers with Felix leading the way with a pair of scores followed by Demich, Thornton and Haley Burkholder with one goal apiece. Thornton and Felix have eight and six shots on goal, respectively, against the Raiders.
 
• A win against Millersville would snap one of Slippery Rock's three active losing streaks against PSAC foes; SRU has lost its last two games to Millersville, Bloomsburg and West Chester. Conversely a win against Shippensburg would be its third straight against the Raiders, which would place the series in a tie for The Rock's fourth longest current winning streak against PSAC opponents.  SRU has won nine straight games against Mansfield, five versus Lock Haven, four versus Mercyhurst and three against Edinboro, Kutztown and Pitt-Johnstown.
 
• Saturday's game against Shippensburg is a sort of homecoming for Rock head coach Jessica Griggs and assistant coach Mark Sappington as each spent extended time at Shippensburg on head coach Rob Fulton's staff. Griggs was at Shippensburg for four seasons from 2010-13 prior to becoming the head coach at Northland College while Sappington assisted the Raiders in 2012 and 2013 before moving on to the University of Scranton.

• Last time out: Bloomsburg scored two goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half en route to a 2-1 win over Millersville on Sept. 3.
 
• Millersville has scored one goal in each of its first two games of the season. Samantha Ricclardi and Amanda Mcelhare have accounted for the Marauders' goals. Stacie Hallinan and Alexandrea Powell assisted on the respective scores.
 
• Samantha Wolfe is entering her second year as Millersville's starting goalkeeper. She has played every minute for MU in its first two games, allowing two goals and making 21 saves (.913) with one shutout.
 
• Halie Parker is the only active Millersville player with a goal in her career against Slippery Rock; she scored the game-winner in the Marauders' 2014 win against The Rock.

• Through three games, Shippensburg is tied for the league lead with seven goals scored. Tori Mills leads the way with a PSAC-high three goals while Kat Hartner, Paige Harris, Lexi Albert and Beth McGee all have one goal. Stephanie Allshouse has assisted on two of the seven goals.
 
• Leah Roy, who has been Shippensburg's starter for the last 20 games, is 2-1 with two goals allowed and seven saves (.778) in three starts this season.
 
• No active Shippensburg player has scored a goal against The Rock in their careers. As a team, Shippensburg has not scored against SRU since the 2013 season.
