SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team will play a pair of games this weekend at the Ashland Thanksgiving Classic in Ashland, Ohio. The Rock plays third-ranked Ashland on Saturday and Hillsdale College on Sunday. Both games are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Ashland holds a 9-6 lead over The Rock in the all-time series, but the teams have not met in the last seven seasons. The Eagles defeated Slippery Rock 78-51 in the last game between the two schools on Nov. 30, 2008. Sasha Sales had 15 points and six rebounds for The Rock in the defeat.

SLIPPERY ROCK TEAM NOTES
• Slippery Rock has shown a dramatic improvement in rebounding from a season ago. SRU enters the Ashland Thanksgiving Classic leading the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in rebounds per game (46.5) and boasting a +4.5 rebounding margin. SRU averaged just 35.9 rebounds per game and held a rebounding margin of -4.9 in 2015-16.
• In addition to leading the PSAC in rebounding, Slippery Rock also ranks in the upper echelon of the league in scoring as its 69.3 points per game is the sixth highest average in the 18-team PSAC.
• Slippery Rock has also defended against the 3-point shot at a high rate early on in the season. Opponents are shooting just 25.3 percent (24-of-95) from long range against The Rock.
• Slippery Rock has used the same starting lineup of Carpenter, Henderson, Heinle, Hinderliter and
C.C. Dixon in each of its four official games this season.
• SRU split a pair of PSAC crossover games Nov. 19-20 with a win at Kutztown and a loss to Shippensburg to give the program a 3-1 record to open the season for a second straight year. The last time Slippery Rock started 3-1 in consecutive seasons was 2004-05 / 2005-06.
