THE OPENING TIP
• Slippery Rock enters tonight's game at 8-8 overall and 5-6 in PSAC West play. California is slotted third in the PSAC West at 10-4 overall and 8-3 in league play.

• SRU is currently tied for seventh in the PSAC West standings, but sits just a half game out of sixth place and one game out of fifth place. The top six teams in the PSAC-West at the end of the season qualify for the PSAC Tournament.

• SRU and the Vulcans are almost polar opposites in terms of style. 30.1 percent of Slippery Rock's shots this season have been 3-pointers and 30.5 percent of The Rock's total points have come from its 3-point attempts while California focuses more inside the perimeter, having scored just 13 percent of its points off of 3-pointers.

QUICKEST ROCK TEAM TO EIGHT WINS IN LAST 12 YEARS
It took this year's team 16 games to reach eight wins, which is tied for the fewest amount of games needed by a Rock team to reach eight victories in the last 12 years.

The 2005-06 team also needed 16 games to get to eight wins while it took the 2006-07 team 17 games, the 2014-15 team 20 games, the 2008-09 team 21 games and the 2004-05 team 23 games. Six Rock teams over the last 12 years failed to reach eight wins for the season.

LAST TIME OUT
Ciara Patterson scored 20 points and Krista Pietropola added a career-high 15 points to lead Slippery Rock to a 71-58 victory at Clarion Jan. 13. The victory, SRU's third straight over Clarion, snapped Slippery Rock's five-game losing streak.

20/20 CLUB
Patterson has now scored at least 20 points in consecutive games after recording 20 points at Clarion and 26 points at Indiana (Pa.). Patterson is one of just three Rock players to score at least 20 points in back-to-back games since the 2005-06 season (10 seasons). The other two players to do so are Julie Molloy (once) and D'Asia Chambers, who accomplished back-to-back 20 point games on seven different occasions.

Patterson has achieved the high scoring totals on efficient shooting marks of 69.6 (16-for-23) from the field, 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from 3-point range and 85.7 percent (6-for-7) from the foul line. The impressive point production has increased her scoring average nearly two full points from 10.1 to 11.7.

FIRST HALF DOMINANCE
Slippery Rock's latest win against Clarion was just another example of how important getting out to a solid start is for Slippery Rock as SRU led Clarion 37-18 after two quarters en route to its eighth win of the season. On the year, SRU is 8-2 when it is leading or tied at halftime and 0-6 when trailing at the break.

Slippery Rock has outscored its opponents 508-479 (+29) in the first half of games this season. The Vulcans hold an impressive +84 (490-486) scoring margin of their own in the opening 20 minutes of games.

ONE OF THE TOP SHOOTING TEAMS IN THE NATION
Slippery Rock continues to position itself as one of the top free throw and 3-point shooting teams in the country.

With 12 games left in the season, Slippery Rock ranks fifth in the nation in free throw shooting percentage at 77.9 percent (226-290) and ninth in 3-point shooting at 39.0 percent (113-for-290). Both percentages rank first among all PSAC teams in addition to their lofty national rankings. Quincy University is the only other team in the country to rank in the top 10 of both categories.

SRU has not finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the nation in both catagories since 2001-02 when it ranked seventh in free throw percentage and 10th in 3-point accuracy. If Slippery Rock can continue its marksmanship both percentages would be single-season program records.

BEST OF THE BEST
Saturday's game will feature two of the top all-around players in the region in California's Miki Glenn and Carpenter; they are two of just seven players in the Atlantic Region to average at least 15.0 points, 4.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

Carpenter comes in at 15.2 points, 4.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals while Glenn averages 20.4 points, 6.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 steals.

The other players in the region to reach the above minimums are Virginia Union's Kiana Johnson (27.2 points, 9.3 assists, 4.9 rebounds, 4.3 steals), West Chester's Brittany Sicinski (16.3, 5.3, 5.2, 1.3), Wheeling Jesuit's Julia Bryant (15.3, 4.0, 5.8, 1.9), Notre Dame College's Martha Nagbe (19.8, 4.3, 6.7, 4.3) and Fairmont State's Mackenzie White (16.6, 4.8, 7.4, 2.7).

STEPPING UP
Slippery Rock received a pair of impressive performances that were vital in helping SRU defeat Clarion from Hardiman and Pietropola.

Hardiman pulled down 10 rebounds and scored 10 points for Slippery Rock's first double-double of the season, and first in 347 calendar days. Pietropola had her best offensive performance since the season-opener after scoring a career-high 15 points thanks to stellar shooting totals of 6-for-12 from the field and 3-for-6 from 3-point range.

CAREER RECORDS WATCH
Aiello improved her standing amongst The Rock's all-time greats in two statistical categories after her play in Slippery Rock's win at Clarion. She tallied a team-high six assists to move into sixth place in program history in assists with 326 while playing 27 minutes to give her 2,537 minutes played in her time at Slippery Rock, the seventh most in Rock history.

At her current per game totals, Aiello projects to finish her career ranked fourth in minutes played and fifth in assists.

CHOICE COMPANY
Through 94 career games, Aiello has amassed 736 points, 326 assists and 202 rebounds. With 12 games remaining in the regular season (not counting any potential postseason games), she needs 64 points (5.3 per game) and 24 assists (2.0 per game) to become the third player in program history to record 800 points, 350 assists and 200 rebounds.

Jackie Altenweg (1998-02) (1,449 points, 361 assists, 410 rebounds) and Annette Bergman (1989-93) (872 points, 417 assists, 228 rebounds) have also accomplished the feat at Slippery Rock.

SCOUTING CALIFORNIA
California is led by the inside-outside duo of guard Miki Glenn and forward Seairra Barrett. Glenn, a legitimate PSAC West Player of the Year candidate, is averaging 20.4 points, 6.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. Barrett has produced per game totals of 14.0 points and 11.0 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the floor. Precious Martin (10.9) and Shatara Parsons (10.4) also average double figure points per game. The Vulcans rank fifth in scoring at 72.1 points per game and ninth in points allowed (65.6).
