Rock and California set for Tuesday showdown

The latest installment of what has quickly become one of the top rivalries in the PSAC takes place 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when Slippery Rock hosts California (Pa.) at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The latest installment of what has quickly become one of the top rivalries in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference takes place 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team hosts California University (Pa.) at James Egli Field.

SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock holds a 22-10-2 advantage over the Vulcans in the all-time series. SRU has won five of the last six contests dating back to the 2012 season, but California won the most recent meeting when it ended The Rock's season with a 2-1 victory in last year's PSAC Tournament.
 
Since 2010, Slippery Rock and California have met in the NCAA Tournament four times and the PSAC Tournament twice with each side recording three postseason wins against the other.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• Last time out: Behind two goals from junior forward Andrea Felix, Slippery Rock produced a blitzkrieg of offensive firepower in the first half for an impressive 4-0 win vs. Shippensburg Sept. 12.
• The Rock enters the week tied for the PSAC lead in goals scored with East Stroudsburg at 12.
• Slippery Rock also ranks fifth in the league in goals allowed with four.
• Junior forward Dara Demich has played some of her best soccer against the Vulcans. In four career games against California, Demich has totaled four goals, one assist and a pair of game-winning scores.
• Demich is off to another solid start with five points on two goals and one assist.
• After her two-score game against Shippensburg, Felix has vaulted to fourth in the PSAC in goals scored with four. She also has one assist on the season for a team-high nine points.
• With two goals and two assists, senior midfielder Caitlin Binder has notched at least one point in three of SRU's four games.
• Rounding out The Rock's goal scorers so far this season with one each is the quartet of sophomore defender Haley Burkholder, senior midfielder Allison Harbart, freshman forward Julianna Esposito and freshman midfielder Mariah Varner.
• SRU's seven assists are the third most in the PSAC.
• Through four games, Slippery Rock has not allowed a goal in the second half.
• Freshman goalkeeper Charlotte Elrod has played every minute for The Rock this season, totaling a 1.00 goals against average and a .714 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE VULCANS
• Last time out: The Vulcans won their third straight game with a 1-0 victory vs. Clarion Sept. 12. Daniela Dell'Aquila scored the game's lone goal in the 87th minute.
• Kara Novotny (three goals) and Selena Fushimi-Karns (two goals) have combined to score five of the Vulcans' six goals on the year.
• Daniela Dell'Aquila has a team-high two assists.
• Goalkeeper Meghan Jayes has allowed just two goals in four games and has a .882 save percentage with two shutouts.
• The Vulcans have not allowed a goal in the last 200:45 minutes.
