New/Sortable Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va.- The Slippery Rock University volleyball team split on the second day of competition at the Davis & Elkins Tournament Saturday in West Virginia.
The Rock (7-1) opened the day with a 3-1 loss to the University of Southern Indiana (25-27, 25-16, 13-25, 5-25) before earning a 3-0 victory against host Davis & Elkins (25-15, 25-21, 25-22) later in the day.
Junior
Leah Jones had 14 kills in the loss to Southern Indiana, while sophomore
Lamija Alisic added nine. Sophomore
Haley Defibaugh had 37 assists and 18 digs, while classmate
Courtney Oberlander also had 27 digs.
Jones also led The Rock against Davis & Elkins with 14 kills and two service aces. Alisic, senior
Kristen Smith and junior
Jaden Zimmer all had eight kills apiece in the win. Defibaugh led the passing game with 38 assists, while Oberlander had a team-high 18 digs.
The Rock will head back to West Virginia next weekend to play Wheeling Jesuit (Friday at 2 p.m.) and Shepherd College (Friday at 7 p.m.) before playing Fairmont State (Saturday at 1:30 p.m.) and West Liberty (Saturday at 6:30 p.m.).
