Rock to start road swing at Central State

Slippery Rock will play the first of five consecutive away games when it travels to Wilberforce, Ohio to play at Central State 2 p.m. Saturday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team will continue non-conference play Saturday when it travels to Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio for a 2 p.m. tip-off in what will be the first of five consecutive road games for The Rock.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
Last time out: Slippery Rock went toe-to-toe with No. 21 West Liberty for a full 40 minutes, but a near last-second jumper by WLU's Kailee Howe proved to be the difference in a 79-77 Rock loss Nov. 25 at Morrow Field House.
 
• SRU leads the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in three-point field goal percentage (41.5, 39-for-94), free throw percentage (80.6, 83-for-103) and turnover margin (+6.50).
 
• Slippery Rock also ranks third in the conference in made 3-pointers, fourth in 3-pointers made per game (6.5) and fifth in the PSAC in field goal percentage (42.8, 149-for-348).

• Slippery Rock is seventh in the conference in both points per game (ppg) (70.0) and points allowed per game (65.7).

• Rock individuals ranked among the best in the PSAC include junior guard Lexi Carpenter, senior guard Erica Aiello, sophomore guard Ciara Patterson and senior forward Sorriyah Ranger.
  
• Carpenter has wasted little time establishing herself as one of the top scoring threats in the PSAC this season with 17.8 ppg, the fifth highest average in the league. Additionally, she ranks first in the league in free throw percentage (minimum 20 attempts) with a near flawless 91.7 percent (33-for-36) effort while also being slotted sixth in assists per game (5.2). She is SRU's second leading rebounder after having pulled in 4.8 rebounds per game (rpg) through the first six games of her Rock career.
 
• Patterson has quickly carved out a place as one of the league's top defenders when it comes to producing steals. Through six games, Patterson ranks second in the league in steals per game (spg) with 2.5. After going without a steal in The Rock's opener, Patterson has registered at least two steals in the last five games.
 
• Patterson's offensive production has also picked up as of late, she is now second for SRU in scoring with 11.0 ppg. Most recently she had a season-high 18 points against West Liberty.
 
• Ranger's seven blocks on the year are the seventh most in the league. She is also averaging 3.0 rpg.
 
• Aiello is the PSAC's fifth leading free throw shooter with an 85.0 shooting percentage (17-for-20) from the foul line. The senior leaders is scoring 10.2 ppg on 43.5 percent shooting from the field to go with 13 assists and seven steals.
 
• Junior guard Audrey Stapleton has provided The Rock with a much-needed offensive spark off the bench recently. In SRU's last three games, Stapleton has averaged 14.3 ppg on 61.2 percent (19-for-31) shooting from the field. On the season, she is now up to fourth on the team in scoring (10.0 ppg).
 
• In addition to having made eight 3-pointers on just 12 attempts already this year, senior forward Megan Hardiman is The Rock's top rebounder at 5.5 rpg.
 
• Freshman forward Morgan Henderson had arguably the best game of her young career against nationally ranked West Liberty. Henderson tallied personal-bests of eight points and five rebound in a season-high 18 minutes played against the Hilltoppers.
 
• Slippery Rock is 2-3 in road dating back Jan. 31 of last season.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS
Last time out: A hot start and a solid finish led the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson to a 96-92 double overtime victory over the Central State Lady Marauders Nov. 21.
 
• Central State is led by the duo of Jordyn Bond and Kourtni Perry. Both players enter Saturday's game nearly averaging double-doubles. Bond leads CSU in both scoring (19.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 rpg) with Perry close behind at 12.0 ppg and 8.3 rpg.

• Ghameerah McCullers is CSU's third leading scorer at 7.3 ppg and its leader in assists with 12 (3.0 per game).

• Central State has scored 66.0 ppg while allowing 74.5 ppg.
 
• As a team, the Marauders hold a +9.3 rebounding margin (47.8-38.5), but commit 22 turnovers per game and shoot just 37.2 percent (100-for-269) from the field.
 
• Slippery Rock and Central State do not have any common opponents, but two of CSU's first four games have come against PSAC schools Gannon (Loss, 76-57) and West Chester (Loss, 80-67).
