MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team began its 2014 season on a down note Thursday afternoon with a 2-0 loss at Millersville University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition.

Slippery Rock (0-1, 0-1 PSAC), which entered the match ranked seventh in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and Millersville (1-0, 1-0 PSAC) played even through the opening 45 minutes of action. However, a pair of Marauder goals midway through the second half proved to be too much for The Rock to overcome.

The quartet of sophomore Andrea Felix, junior Allison Harbart, sophomore Sam Thornton and freshman Maddy Tletski paced SRU with one shot on goal each.

Sophomore Annabelle Hegeman played all 90 minutes in goal for Slippery Rock, finishing the contest with a match-high eight saves.

Millersville broke the 0-0 tie in the 60th minute when Halie Parker managed to put in a deflected ball past Hegeman. The Marauders added an insurance goal at 72:37 after Hannah Willett converted a free kick from 18 yards out en route to the victory.

The Rock had a final chance to score, but a shot by sophomore Dara Demich in the 83rd minute sailed high.

As a team, Slippery Rock held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. Millersville edged SRU in total shots, 15-9.

MU goalie Olivia Webber recorded her first shutout of the season with four saves.

Slippery Rock will look to bounce back from the defeat when it hosts Shippensburg University at 1 p.m. Saturday at James Egli Field.
