SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Fresh off of a 1-0 upset of sixth-ranked California (Pa.), the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team returns home to James Egli Field when it hosts Davis & Elkins College Saturday at 1 p.m.

Records: Slippery Rock goes into its first, and only, non-conference game of the year with a record of 1-1-1 overall and in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Since losing its first game of the season, SRU has rebounded by earning a tie against Shippensburg and defeating the nationally ranked Vulcans on the road. Both Shippensburg and California qualified for the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

Davis & Elkins College enters today's game at 0-0-2 on the season. The Senators started the year with 0-0 draws against California and Shepherd University.

Last Time Out: SRU garnered its first win of the season by downing No. 6 California 1-0 on the road (
Box Score). The triumph extended Slippery Rock's winning streak over California to five games, SRU defeated the Vulcans twice a season ago including, a 3-0 win in the NCAA Atlantic Regional championship game.

Making The Rock's road victory all the more impressive is the fact that since the 2010 season, California is a stellar 45-4-4 at home and Slippery Rock has been responsible for three the losses.

Davis & Elkins picked up a draw when it went the full 110 minutes against Shepherd, which competes out of the Mountain East Conference, without scoring or allowing a goal (

Scouting Slippery Rock: The Rock's defense has surrendered just two goals this year, both of which came in its season-opener at Millersville. Only two other PSAC schools that have played three matches have allowed fewer goals. Leading the effort has been goalkeeper
Annabelle Hegeman, who ranks third in the PSAC in both saves (20) and save percentage (.909). SRU's defense has also cleared all 14 opponent corner kicks early on.

Offensively,
Dara Demich delivered Slippery Rock's first goal of the season when she sent in the game-winner against California off of a corner by
Caitlin Binder. Demich ranks second for The Rock with five total shots. She trails
Sam Thornton, who is the team-leader with 13 attempts. Eight of Thornton's shots have been on target.
SRU's win over California was its fifth consecutive over the Vulcans. Slippery Rock has won 14 of its last 18 matches at Egli Field.

Leslie Henny has made 43 starts, 19 consecutive, in her career and is one of six Rock players with at least 20 collegiate starts along with

Scouting Davis & Elkins: Goalkeeper Ashley Winkelspecht has been stellar for the Senators to start the year. In two games, Winkelspecht has played all 220 minutes and stopped 13 shots without allowing a goal. Maggie Fry and Laia M. Dordas have paced the D&E offensive attack. The duo has combined to take seven of Davis & Elkins' 19 shots.

th head coach in NCAA Division II women's soccer history to amass 250 career wins.

Gene Smith is in his first year in charge of the Davis & Elkins program. Smith is no stranger to Slippery Rock as he most recently worked at California for four seasons first as an assistant then as the head coach beginning in 2012. Smith also served as the head coach at Plymouth State from 2005-06. He has compiled a record of 45-27-9 in five years as a head coach.
