Reinhardt's javelin throw leads Rock men at Raleigh Relays

David Reinhardt recorded the third best javelin throw among all NCAA Division II athletes to lead The Rock on the final day at the Raleigh Relays.

Final Results

RALEIGH, N.C. – David Reinhardt took second place in the javelin with the third best throw among all NCAA Division II athletes in the nation so far this year to lead the Slippery Rock University men's track and field team on the final day of the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University.

Reinhardt, who qualified for the NCAA National Championships as a freshman in the javelin last spring, broke out with his best mark of the year to take second in a field loaded with Division I talent with a throw of 64.50 meters.

His throw is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and is just short of the automatic mark of 65.91 meters. It is also the third best throw in the nation this year and gives Slippery Rock two of the top 10 javelin throwers in the country so far this year as teammate Tyler Kachelries ranks ninth at 62.74 meters.

Reinhardt also hit the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying standard in the hammer throw Saturday with a throw of 46.37 meters to lead a total of eight PSAC individual marks recorded by The Rock men. He was joined in the hammer by Trevor Miller with a throw of 45.25 meters.

Victor Santoyo matched Reinhardt for the highest finish for a Slippery Rock athlete with his second place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.77 meters to cap the top field event performances.

Three 400-meter hurdlers earned the PSAC standard to lead the track athletes. Trevor Foley led the way in 55.24 seconds, followed closely by Nathaniel Helfferich in 55.66 seconds and Logan Mooney in 57.14 seconds.

The final PSAC mark of the day came from Jaron Martin in the 10,000-meter run. He covered the 6.2-miles in 32:07.32.

Slippery Rock has competed in three meets this season with two in South Carolina and one in North Carolina. The Rock will hope for a turn in the weather when they host their first of two home meets next Friday with the Dave Labor Invitational. Field events are set to begin at noon and track events will follow at 2:30 p.m.
