Edinboro StatsSLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University's softball team opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play with a pair of home doubleheaders this weekend.
The Rock takes on Seton Hill Saturday at 11 a.m., before facing Edinboro Sunday at 1 p.m. Both doubleheaders will be played at the SRU Softball Complex.

Records: The Rock enters the weekend with a 4-9 overall record after recent trips to North Carolina and Florida. SRU has lost its last three games after ending consecutive games with walk-off victories.
Seton Hill owns a 12-2 overall record and is 2-0 in the PSAC-West. The Griffins have won eight straight games, including a doubleheader sweep over Mercyhurst Thursday.
Edinboro owns a 5-7 overall record this spring. The Fighting Scots have won four of their previous five contests after starting the season 1-6.
Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is batting .259 as a team, while opponents are hitting .308 at the plate going into Saturday's games. The Rock has a team ERA of 4.43, compared to the opponents' 1.97 ERA against SRU this spring. The offensive attack is led by sophomore
Ashley Samluk, who is batting .400 and leads the team with eight runs scored, 16 hits, 10 RBI and four home runs. Freshman
McKenzie Popatak leads the team with a .406 batting average and is second with seven RBI. Freshman
Eliza Sykes is hitting at a .314 clip and has scored four runs and stolen two bases. Senior
Emily Lobdell is hitting .308 and junior
Alaynna Beers is hitting .297 to round out the top offensive players. Freshman
Carly DeRose has appeared in 10 games in the circle and is 2-4 with a 4.69 ERA and 28 strikeouts. Lobdell appeared in nine games and is 2-3 with a 3.83 ERA and 25 strikeouts. Freshman
Sarah Petrash has three appearances and is 0-1 with a 5.53 ERA to round out the top pitchers for SRU.
Scouting the Griffins: Seton Hill is batting a startling .390 as a team, while holding opponents to a .214 average. The pitching staff holds a 2.35 ERA, while opponents own a 6.84 ERA against the Griffins. Seton Hill has six players hitting over .375 on the season. Christine Henderson leads the team with a .490 batting average and adds 12 runs and 13 RBI. Lauren Sauerwein is connecting at a .472 clip with 16 runs, 14 RBI and three home runs. Kaitlyn Kutchman is batting .464 with nine runs, 12 RBI and three home runs. Carlee Wickstrom is hitting .435 with 11 runs, a team-high 15 RBI, six stolen bases and two home runs. Dani Treaster owns a .434 batting average and a team-high 17 runs. Abbey Suhoski leads the team with four home runs and is hitting .375 with 10 runs and 12 RBI. Henderson also leads the pitching staff with a 6-0 record and 1.40 ERA in seven appearances. Henderson has four complete games, including two shutouts, to go along with 44 strikeouts in 35 innings. Amanda Huff is 4-1 this spring with a 3.03 ERA and 32 strikeouts in seven appearances. Hope Pehrson is 2-0 with a 1.94 ERA in six appearances to round out the top pitchers for the Griffins.
Scouting The Fighting Scots: Edinboro enters the weekend hitting .297 as a team, while opponents are clicking at a .333 mark against the Scots. The pitching staff owns a 7.75 ERA, while opponents own a 6.36 ERA against Edinboro. The offense is led by Haley Sruebing with a .486 average, 10 runs, three home runs and nine RBI. Brenna Cosgrove is hitting .405 with 10 runs and three stolen bases. Taylor Payne owns a .355 batting average to go along with 10 RBI. Shelby Proctor also has 10 RBI and is hitting .324 on the season. Brooke Callaghan owns a .222 average with 10 runs to round out the top offensive players for the Fighting Scots. Kalet Lenart leads the pitching staff with a 3-3 record, 7.81 ERA and 11 strikeouts in six appearances. Samantha Weaver has appeared in four games and is 0-4 with an 11.76 ERA. Payne recorded a shutout victory in her only start this spring to give her a 1-0 record and 0.00 ERA.
Coaches: Becky Sciacca is in her third season as head coach at Slippery Rock. Prior to becoming the head coach, Sciacca spent five seasons (2007-2011) as an assistant coach for The Rock. In her first two seasons at the helm, she guided Slippery Rock to a 32-37 overall record.
Jen Mineau returns to the Griffin coaching staff for her second season in 2014 as interim head coach. Mineau brings a strong pitching background to the staff as she spent the summers of 2012 and 2013 playing professionally for the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League. Prior to playing professionally, Jen played for four seasons at Fordham.
Dan Gierlak enters his 24th season at the helm of the Edinboro University softball program. The veteran coach has led a renaissance of Boro softball in recent years, as the Fighting Scots won 18-or-more games four of the last six seasons. Gierlak owns a 356-468-3 record in 23 years as head coach of the Fighting Scots.
All-Time Series: The Rock is 5-0 all-time against Seton Hill, with the most recent win coming in 2010.
Slippery Rock is 49-62 all-time against Edinboro, with the teams splitting a pair of doubleheaders last season.
