Rock women drop 82-64 decision to divison-leading Edinboro

D'Asia Chambers had team-high totals of 23 points and eight rebounds for SRU (5-19 overall, 2-12 PSAC-West)

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior forward D'Asia Chambers recorded team-high totals of 23 points and eight rebounds Wednesday night to lead a losing effort as Slippery Rock University dropped an 82-64 decision to division-leading Edinboro University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division women's basketball action in Morrow Field House.

Senior center Jazmyne Frost scored 14 points and snared six rebounds and sophomore guard Erica Aiello scored 10 points for SRU, which saw its season records fall to 5-19 overall and 2-12 in PSAC-West action.

Darche' Jackson tied Chambers for game-high scoring honors with 23 points for Edinboro (19-5, 13-1), which had four players finish the game with double-digit scoring totals. Laurel Lindsay added 18 points for the Fighting Scots, while Aignee Freeland collected 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds and Lauren Hippo also scored 16 points.

The Rock made 45% (27 of 60) of their field-goal attempts with a 23% (3 of 13) showing from 3-point range. SRU sank seven of 13 (54%) free throws.

Edinboro, which had a 48-32 rebounding advantage, shot 46% (34 of 74) from the field, 21% (3 of 14) from 3-point range and 79% (11 of 14) from the foul line.

The Rock committed 17 turnovers, which Edinboro converted into 17 points, while The Rock scored seven points off 10 Edinboro mistakes.

Behind the lead of Chambers and Frost, The Rock had a 44-42 edge in scoring "in the paint" and also enjoyed a 10-4 advantage in "bench points."

The Rock scored the first four points of the game and were tied with Edinboro at 6-6 with 17 minutes to play in the first half before the Scots went on a 10-0 run to take control of the proceedings.

Edinboro enjoyed three 23-point advantages late in the first half, the final one a 50-27 difference at the intermission.

The guests held their largest lead of the game, a 29-point, 78-49 margin with 5:15 left to play.

SRU returns to action Saturday, when it travels to Greensburg to take on Seton Hill University in a 1 p.m. division game.

The Rock then conclude their 2013-14 schedule with a 6 p.m. PSAC-West game next Wednesday vs. Indiana (Pa.).
