Rock women host division leading Edinboro Wednesday

Slippery Rock will host Edinboro Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in The Rock's second-to-last home game of the 2013-14 season.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team will host Edinboro University Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action at Morrow Field House.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game at the bottom of the division standings with a 5-18 overall record and a 2-11 mark in PSAC-West games. The Rock are coming off a 70-63 road win at Mercyhurst last Wednesday that snapped a five-game skid.

Edinboro enters the game atop the division standings with an 18-5 overall record and a 12-1 PSAC-West mark. The Fighting Scots are the only team in the nation to beat Gannon this year, defeating the Golden Knights in both meetings between the teams, including a 69-57 win on the road last Wednesday in Erie when Gannon was ranked No. 3 in Division II.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is scoring 67.9 points per game and allowing 76.3 points per game.

The Rock are shooting 41.6 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 66.1 percent at the free throw line. Opponents shoot 40.3 percent from the field, 35.0 percent from long range and 71.6 percent at the free throw line.

D'Asia Chambers leads the team with per game averages of 17.0 points and 8.5 rebounds. She has scored 30 or more points four times this season and is averaging 20.3 points per game in PSAC-West action. Jazmyne Frost adds 14.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Aidan Geise chips in 11.2 points per game and Erica Aiello contributes 8.8 points and 4.5 assists per game. Megan Hardiman adds 6.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Scouting the Fighting Scots: Edinboro is scoring 74.2 points per game and allowing 67.0 points per game.

The Scots are shooting 45.1 percent from the field, 37.2 percent from 3-point and 67.1 percent at the free throw line. Opponents are shooting 41.9 percent from the field, 26.6 percent from 3-point and 74.7 percent from the free throw line.

Valerie Majewski leads the team in scoring at 16.0 points per game. Aignee' Freeland adds 13.7 points and a team-high 8.7 rebounds per game. Laurel Lindsay scores 12.4 points per game, Hope Mancini adds 12.2 points per game and Darche' Jackson chips in 9.2 points and 4.9 assists per game.

Series: Slippery Rock owns a 41-39 advantage in the all-time series, but Edinboro has won the last nine meetings between the two teams, including an 83-75 win in Edinboro earlier this season.

Last Meeting: (Box Score) Slippery Rock outscored Edinboro in the second half but a 48-39 halftime advantage for the Fighting Scots proved to be decisive in an 83-75 win Jan. 11 in Edinboro.

Slippery Rock cut the deficit to three points with just under eight minutes to play, but Edinboro closed the door down the stretch to fight off the potential upset.

D'Asia Chambers led all players in the game with 30 points. Aidan Geise chipped in a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds and Erica Aiello added 10 points and five assists for Slippery Rock.

Edinboro was led by 27 points from Valerie Majewski and got a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds from Laurel Lindsay.

Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Slippery Rock program, where she owns a record of 18-82. She is the eighth head coach in the program's history. Longo was inducted into the athletic Hall of Fame this year at her Alma Mater, Wisconsin Eau Claire, in honor of her excellent collegiate playing career.

Stan Swank is in his 27th season as the head coach at Edinboro, where he owns a career record of 484-273, ranking him among the top-15 active coaches in Division II in total wins. He has led the team to the PSAC playoffs 17 times and has won the league title three times. Swank has guided the Lady Scots to the NCAA Tournament eight times, including each of the last two years.

Next Up: Slippery Rock has two games remaining on the 2013-14 schedule after Wednesday night. The Rock will visit Seton Hill Saturday for a 1 p.m. game and close the year next Wednesday when Indiana (Pa.) visits Morrow Field House for a 6 p.m. game.

White Out: The Feb. 26 game against Indiana is the annual White Out game at Slippery Rock. Official t-shirts are available for sale at the SGA Bookstore for just $5. All fans attending the game are encouraged to wear white.
