SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's volleyball team sets its sights on California (Pa.) Friday night, before turning its attention to Seton Hill Saturday afternoon in a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games this weekend.

Records: Slippery Rock brings an 11-4 overall record and 5-2 mark in PSAC action into the weekend. The Rock has won six of its last eight matches after falling at Edinboro, 3-1, Tuesday night.
California is 11-5 overall and 5-2 in league play. The Vulcans, who were voted as the favorite to win the PSAC-West, have won five of its last six matches after defeating Seton Hill in five-sets Tuesday.

Seton Hill is 14-2 overall and 5-2 in conference games. The Griffins opened the season with a sizzling 11-0 record, but have dropped two of its last three after a 3-2 defeat at Cal (Pa.) Tuesday night.

Kristy Lake paces The Rock with 159 kills (3.18 per set), six service aces and 157 digs. Sophomore
Leah Jones has tallied 144 kills (3.06 per set), 14 aces and a team-high 159 digs, while freshman
Emily Sokolowski has tallied 102 kills (2.00 per set) to round out the top attackers for SRU. Slippery Rock uses two primary setters, led by senior
Janna Reilly with 250 assists and 118 digs. Sophomore
Nicole Fortuna adds 214 assists and a team-best 16 service aces. Senior
Michelle Hren anchors the defensive net presence with 36 total blocks, while sophomore

Scouting the Vulcans: California holds advantages of 708-660 in kills and 144.5-83.5 in total blocks, while opponents have kept pace in service aces at 84 and out-dug the Vulcans 1051-1038. Laurel Miller paces the offensive attack with a PSAC-best 200 kills (3.51 per set) and adds 17 service aces and 165 digs. Danielle Hays is second on the team with 123 kills (2.08 per set), followed by Mary Lavery with 89 kills (1.78 per set). Taylor Solo leads the team with 276 assists, while Megan Litoborski adds 210 assists. Miranda Fouzie anchors the defensive net presence with 70 total blocks, which also leads the PSAC. Hayes adds 51 blocks, while Samantha Rudy leads the defense with 170 digs.

Scouting the Griffins: Seton Hill posts advantages of 732-644 in kills, 84-71 in service aces, 934-839 in digs and 143-99.5 in total blocks. Shelby Kylio leads the team and is 2nd in the PSAC with 194 kills (3.23 per set) and 64 total blocks, while leading the conference with a .382 attack percentage, on top of 21 aces. Corrine Gahagen ranks 2nd on the team with 159 kills (2.65 per set, .318 attack percentage) and 55 total blocks. Abigail Malsch rounds out the top attackers for SHU with 94 kills (1.84 per set). Courtney Field orchestrates the offense and has dished out a team-high 502 assists. Lauren Teed patrols the backcourt with a team-best 254 digs.

Head Coaches: The 2014 season is
Laurie Lokash's 31st year in charge of the Slippery Rock volleyball program. Lokash enters the season as the 10th winningest active coach in Division II, compiling a 574-465 record in 30 seasons at The Rock. She led The Rock to their first PSAC title in her innagural season (1984) and added another championship in 1993. Lokash also guided SRU to NCAA regional tournament berths in 1994, 2000, 2005 and 2006. In 2002, Lokash was recognized for her years of service and success by induction into the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Lokash played collegiate volleyball at West Virginia for a year before transferring to Penn State.
Peter Letourneau enters his third year as the head coach at Cal U in 2014. In 2012, Letourneau guided the program to its seventh 30-win season in the last eight years and a seventh-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship. Letourneau was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the program to a 33-5 overall record and its seventh PSAC Championship. He previously served as head coach at Frostburg State, a NCAA Division III program in Frostburg, Md., for six years. He also was an assistant volleyball coach at Rutgers in 2004. Letourneau gained valuable experience during his playing career. Over his six-year stint with the United States Air Force (1992-98), he was selected to the All-Services Volleyball Team and the All-Air Force Team (1994-95). He also played on the Florida Pro-Beach Volleyball Tour (1990-92) and began his playing career at East Stroudsburg in 1989.

Seton Hill University head volleyball coach Rick Hall returns for his twenty seventh season in 2014 at the helm of the Griffins volleyball program. Coach Hall's career at SHU has been highlighted by two Northeast Regional Coach of the Year honors, four District Championships, two Regional Championships, and four national tournament appearances in Hawaii, Kansas, and California. In 2006, Coach Hall was inducted into the first class of the Seton Hill University Athletic Hall of Fame. Last season, Rick led the Griffins to their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Next Up: Slippery Rock returns to conference action next weekend when it hosts a PSAC East-West crossover at Morrow Field House. The Rock will take on Pitt-Johnstown (11:30 a.m.) and Lock Haven (7:30 p.m.) Friday, before facing Shippensburg (10 a.m.) and Millersville (6 p.m.) Saturday.
