Rock women host Cal U Saturday

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team returns home to Morrow Field House to host California University (Pa.) Saturday at 1 p.m. in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division game.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game at the bottom of the divisional standings with a 4-15 overall record and a 1-8 mark in the PSAC-West.

California enters the game ranked third in the division with an overall record of 11-7 and a divisional mark of 5-4, one game ahead of four teams that are tied for fourth place.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is scoring 69.7 points per game and allowing 76.8 points per game.

The Rock are shooting 42.1 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 67.4 percent at the free throw line. Opponents shoot 40.3 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from long range and 71.7 percent at the free throw line.

D'Asia Chambers leads the team with per game averages of 17.4 points and 9.0 rebounds. She has scored 30 or more points four times this season and is averaging 22.4 points per game in PSAC-West action.

Jazmyne Frost adds 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game and is coming off a 16-point, 16-rebound effort at Clarion Wednesday. Aidan Geise chips in 12.1 points per game and Erica Aiello contributes 9.4 points and 4.7 assists per game. Megan Hardiman adds 6.7 points per game and is coming off a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double Wednesday.

Scouting the Vulcans: California is scoring 72.1 points per game and allowing 67.8 points per game.

The Vulcans are shooting 39.8 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from 3-point and 70.6 percent at the free throw line. Opponents are shooting 45.4 percent from the field, 35.0 percent from 3-point and 71.0 percent from the free throw line.

Emma Mahady leads the team in scoring at 12.5 points per game. Kaitlynn Fratz scores 10.8 points per game. Miki Glenn adds 9.8 points per game, Elena Antonenko chips in 9.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and Ashley Hines adds 7.9 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game.

Series: California owns a 45-23 all-time record against Slippery Rock, including a 79-52 win earlier this season in the first meeting between the two teams.

D'Asia Chambers led Slippery Rock with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Aidan Geise chipped in 11 points. The Rock was held to just six made field goals in the second half and 19 points.

California was led by 23 points and nine rebounds from Miki Glenn. Irina Kukolj added 15 points and Chelsea McKnight chipped in 14 points. The Vulcans bench outscored SRU's bench by a 38-9 margin.

Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Slippery Rock program, where she owns a record of 17-79. She is the eighth head coach in the program's history. Longo was inducted into the athletic Hall of Fame this year at her Alma Mater, Wisconsin Eau Claire, in honor of her excellent collegiate playing career.

Jess Strom, former standout player at Penn State, is in her third season as the head coach at California and her eighth season as a member of the Vulcans staff. She has led the team to an overall record of 47-23, including a 22-9 record in her first year that ended in a trip to the NCAA Tournament, where the team reached the Atlantic Regional final.

Next Up: Slippery Rock will travel to No. 4 Gannon Wednesday, Feb. 5 for a 5:30 p.m. game at the Hammermill Center in Erie. Gannon, then ranked No. 2 and undefeated, narrowly escaped The Rock with a 76-73 win in the first meeting between the teams this season.
