Chambers nets 30 in 83-75 loss at Edinboro

D'Asia Chambers scored 30 points for the third time this year, but it wasn't enough as Edinboro held off Slippery Rock for an 83-75 win Saturday.

EDINBORO, Pa. – D'Asia Chambers scored a career-high 30 points for the third time this season, but it wouldn't be enough as hosting Edinboro held off Slippery Rock University for an 83-75 win in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division women's basketball action Saturday.

The win improves the Lady Scots to 10-3 overall and keeps them atop the league standings with a 4-0 divisional record. Slippery Rock drops to 3-12 overall and 0-5 in the PSAC-West.

Chaambers has had the hot hand over the last 11 games for Slippery Rock, scoring 30 points three times and at least 25 points four times. She matched her career-high to lead all scorers in the game Saturday and also recorded three steals and two blocks.

Slippery Rock got a double-double effort from Aidan Geise with 15 points and 10 rebounds and also got double figure scoring from Erica Aiello with 10 points and five assists.

Jazmyne Frost added eight points and seven rebounds and Kara Houppert chipped in seven points off the bench to lead The Rock.

Slippery Rock had one of its best shooting performances of the season, connecting on 50.9 percent of its attempts from the field (27-of-53), including 5-of-14 from beyond the 3-point arc (35.7 percent). The Rock shot 76.2 percent at the free throw line (16-of-21).

One of the key deciding factors in the game was Edinboro's efficiency from long range, where the Scots scored 33 points on a 50 percent shooting effort, connecting on 11-of-22 3-pointers. The long range shooting was better than the overall effort at 46.9 percent from the field (30-of-64). Edinboro was 63.2 percent at the free throw line (12-of-19) and outrebounded Slippery Rock 35-30.

Valerie Majewski led the Scots with 27 points, while Laurel Lindsay added a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds and Darche' Jackson chipped in 13 points.

The lead flipped flopped between the two teams throughout the opening minutes before Edinboro pulled away late in the first half. Leading 31-27 with 6:58 to play before the break, the Scots went on an 8-0 run to make it 39-27 with just under five minutes to play. Slippery Rock closed the half on a 12-9 run to trail 48-39 at halftime.

The Rock continued to battle back into the game, cutting the deficit to three at 52-49 with 15:34 to play, but Edinboro answered with a 9-0 run to push it out to 61-49 with 13:46 to go.

Again, Slippery Rock pushed back into the game, this time with a 15-6 run, to pull to within three points at 67-64 with 7:46 to play, but Edinboro weathered the storm and was able to connect on free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

The Rock will play their next two PSAC-West games at home, beginning Jan. 18 when Mercyhurst visits for a 1 p.m. game. Slippery Rock then hosts Seton Hill Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.
