Rock resumes PSAC play at Edinboro Saturday

Slippery Rock returns to PSAC-West action when it travels to Edinboro Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team returns to divisional play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference when it visits Edinboro University Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game with a 3-11 overall record and a 0-4 mark in the PSAC-West. The Rock are coming off a 69-61 win over Kutztown Wednesday evening.

Edinboro enters the game with a 9-3 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the PSAC-West. The Lady Scots are riding a four-game winning streak and are coming off a 94-74 win over Shippensburg Wednesday evening.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is scoring 69.8 points per game and allowing 76.4 points per game.

The Rock are shooting 41.7 percent from the field, 30.6 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 67.5 percent at the free throw line. Opponents shoot 39.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from long range and 73.6 percent at the free throw line.

Jazmyne Frost leads the team with per game averages of 15.7 points and 8.4 rebounds. D'Asia Chambers has been dominant lately and now averages 14.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. She is coming off a 25-point, 15-rebound double-double Wednesday night. Chambers has scored 15 or more points in nine games this season and is averaging 18.0 points in her last 10 games, inclduing three games with 25 or more points.

Aidan Geise adds 12.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while Erica Aiello chips in 9.8 points and 3.9 assists per game and Megan Hardiman adds 6.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Scouting the Lady Scots: Edinboro is scoring 75.7 points per game and allowing 66.4 points per game.

The Lady Scots are shooting 45.0 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from 3-point and 60.5 percent at the free throw line. Opponents are shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 23.0 percent from 3-point and 70.9 percent from the free throw line.

Valerie Majewski leads four players that average double figure scoring with 15.9 points per game. She also hands out a team-high 4.6 assists per game. Aignee Freeland scores 13.4 points per game and pulls down a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game. Hope Mancini chips in 12.4 points per game and Laurel Lindsay adds 10.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

After the top four scorers, the scoring averages dip significantly, with the next highest scorer averaging 5.7 points per game in Katie Collins.

Series: Slippery Rock owns a 41-38 advantage in the all-time series, but Edinboro has won the last eight meetings. The last Rock win in the series came in 2008-09, when SRU swept both games in the season.

Last Meeting: (Box Score) Edinboro completed a season sweep with a 70-60 win over Slippery Rock Feb. 16, 2013 at Morrow Field House.

The Rock led by two points at halftime, but shot 28 percent in the second half as the visiting Lady Scots rallied for the win.

D'Asia Chambers led SRU with 12 points in the loss.

Samantha Blazetic scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Edinboro, which also got double figure scoring from Darche' Jackson (16), Kiara Brown (15) and Aignee Freeland (12) as the foursome combined to score 63 of the team's 70 points.

Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Slippery Rock program, where she owns a record of 16-75. She is the eighth head coach in the program's history. Longo was inducted into the athletic Hall of Fame this year at her Alma Mater, Wisconsin Eau Claire, in honor of her excellent collegiate playing career. She is married to Rock football offensive coordinator Phil Longo.

Stan Swank is in his 27th season as the head coach at Edinboro, where he owns a career record of 475-271, ranking him among the top-15 active coaches in Division II in total wins. He has led the team to the PSAC playoffs 17 times and has won the league title three times. Swank has guided the Lady Scots to the NCAA Tournament eight times, including each of the last two years.

Next Up: The Rock returns home for their next two PSAC-West games, welcoming Mercyhurst next Saturday (Jan. 18) for a 1 p.m. game and hosting Seton Hill Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.
