Rock volleyball improves to 3-1

GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team won its final two matches of the Glenville State tournament to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Rock won 3-1 against both Glenville State and Bluefield College on Sunday.

Slippery Rock fell in the opening set 24-26 to the host Pioneers, but rallied to win three consecutive sets 25-21, 25-8 and 25-12 and take the match 3-1. Caroline Houston led the way for The Rock, recording 10 kills, 9 digs and matching a career-high 7 service aces. Kristy Lake added 14 kills, 12 digs and a service ace of her own. Janna Reilly recorded 21 assists, 9 digs and 3 kills in the victory.
 
The Rock continued its strong play in the second match, defeating the Rams in four sets 25-17, 25-15, 23-25 and 25-21. Houston led The Rock with 9 kills and 15 digs. Lake also contributed 9 kills and chipped in 6 digs of her own. Senior Kayla Woo set a career high with 14 digs and led the team with 3 service aces. Alexandra Fleagle added 21 assists while Reilly tacked on an additional 16 assists.
 
Slippery Rock returns to action Friday, Sept. 13 at the Shepherd Tournament against West Virginia Wesleyan, Fairmont State and Shepherd in Shepherdstown, W. Va.
