New/Sortable Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team (5-8) fell on the road to Point Park (12-10) in five sets Tuesday night.
The Rock jumped out to an early lead after winning the first set 25-20. The Pioneers rallied to win consecutive sets, 25-21 and 25-17 before Slippery Rock answered in the fourth with a 25-22 win to extend the match. Point Park rallied from an 8-6 deficit and outlasted The Rock 15-13 to win it in the fifth set.
Kristy Lake led the team with 14 kills, while
Caroline Houston contributed 12 kills and 22 digs.
Cassidy Schoof added nine kills and
Michelle Hren added eight kills to cap the offensive leaders for Slippery Rock.
Lauren Rojek recorded 22 digs,
Morgan Olson had 13 digs and Hren added seven blocks to lead The Rock's defensive effort.
Janna Reilly tallied 41 assists, 12 digs and 3 blocks in the loss.
The Rock has now lost five consecutive matches after starting the season 5-3. Four of its last five losses have come in the abbreviated fifth set.
Slippery Rock begins PSAC play Friday, Sept. 27 against Kutztown (2 p.m.) and East Stroudsburg (5 p.m.) at the first PSAC Crossover in Erie, Pa. The Rock will also face West Chester (12:30 p.m.) and Cheyney (3:30 p.m.) Saturday, Sept. 28.
