ELKINS, W. Va. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team won its only scheduled non-conference game of the season Saturday with a 1-0 defeat on the road at Davis & Elkins.

The Rock (3-1-1) was in control throughout the game and held the Senators (1-5) to just two total shots.

Freshman Dara Demich scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Cailin Conner early in the first half for what was the only goal Slippery Rock would need.

The Rock also saw contributions from freshmen making their collegiate debuts, including goalkeeper Annabelle Hegeman and Ariana Daukss, who both started.

Hegeman picked up her first collegiate win and shutout after making two saves.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 13-2 in total shots, 7-2 in shots on goal and 5-1 in corner kicks.

Senator goalkeeper Ashley Winkelspecht took the loss after allowing the lone goal and recording six saves.

Slippery Rock scored its game-winner just 8:42 into the game and neither team could generate a score for the remainder.

Saturday marked the first ever meeting between the two schools in the sport of women's soccer and was the only regular season non-conference game SRU will play this year, thanks to the PSAC expanding to include 17 women's soccer teams.

The Rock returns to league action Tuesday night when they host PSAC newcomer Seton Hill in a 7:30 p.m. game at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
