New/Sortable Box Score 2 WHEELING, W. Va. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team (5-5) dropped its opening day matches of the Wheeling Jesuit Tournament against Fairmont State (8-2) and Wheeling Jesuit (8-3) Friday.
The Rock fell to the Fighting Falcons 25-19 in the first set before answering with a 25-22 win in the second set. Slippery Rock took a 2-1 lead with a 25-14 victory in the third set, but fell 25-16 in the fourth and 15-11 in the fifth.
Wheeling Jesuit continued its torrid streak in the early going of the season, defeating The Rock in three straight sets 25-15, 25-8 and 25-13.
Slippery Rock returns to action Saturday in day two of the Wheeling Jesuit Tournament, facing West Liberty at 10 a.m. and Charleston at 4 p.m.
