SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team (5-3) defeated Alderson-Broaddus (3-6) 3-1 Wednesday night in its home opener in Morrow Field House.
The Rock took down Alderson-Broaddus 25-20 in the first set, before outlasting the Battlers 30-28 in the second set. Alderson-Broaddus clawed back into the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set, but could not hold off The Rock, falling 25-21 in the fourth.
Slippery Rock trailed 20-16 in the fourth set before
Kristy Lake served The Rock to six consecutive points to give SRU the edge in the final set.
Caroline Houston led The Rock with 14 kills and three service aces to go along with 19 digs.
Kristy Lake added 11 kills and 14 digs, while
Sarah Beals added 10 kills and
Jaden Zimmer chipped in nine kills.
Janna Reilly tallied 26 assists to lead the team and
Alexandra Fleagle recorded 21 assists.
Kayla Woo led the defensive effort with 24 digs, while
Michelle Hren added 5 blocks.
Slippery Rock improves to 5-3 with the win, while the Battlers drop to 3-6.
The Rock returns to action this weekend (Sept. 20-21) at the Wheeling Jesuit Tournament in Wheeling W. Va.
