SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team hit two crossbars and posted a 5-2 edge in shots in the second half but could not find an equalizer in falling 1-0 to Indiana University (Pa.) Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
Indiana scored on its first shot on goal in the opening half when Tonya Fabian scored through traffic after taking a long cross from Kate Number in the 14th minute.
The Crimson Hawks carried that 1-0 lead to halftime despite being outshot 5-4 by The Rock in the opening period.
Slippery Rock put the pressure on in the second half, posting a 5-2 edge in shots, including two shots that clipped the crossbar off the foot of Cailin Conner, but the Indiana defense put seven players behind the ball and preserved the win.
The Rock finished with advantages of 10-6 in shots, 4-2 in shots on goal and 5-3 in corner kicks.
Dana O'Neill made one save in goal for Slippery Rock, while Mara Hricik made four saves to earn the shutout in goal for the Crimson Hawks.
With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 1-1-1 overall and has the same record in PSAC play. Indiana improves to 3-1-0 both overall and in PSAC action.
Slippery Rock travels to Edinboro Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. PSAC match.
