No. 8 Rock women's soccer hosts IUP Saturday

The No. 8 Slippery Rock women's soccer team will welcome Indiana (Pa.) to Egli Field Saturday for a PSAC match at 2 p.m.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will host Indiana University (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match Saturday at 2 p.m. on James Egli Field.

Rankings: Slippery Rock is currently ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II national rankings. The Rock ranks first in the Atlantic Region. Indiana is currently unranked in the national poll and is ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region.

Records: Slippery Rock enters Saturday's game with an unbeaten mark of 1-0-1 to start the 2013 season, including a 2-1 win over California (Pa.) in the opener and a 1-1 tie at Clarion, despite holding the Golden Eagles to only one shot on goal in the entire game.

Indiana enters the game with a 2-1-0 overall record after defeating PSAC newcomers Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown to open the year before falling 2-1 to California (Pa.) Tuesday.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is outshooting the opposition 28-16 and outscoring opponents 3-2 after two games. The Rock posted a 20-5 edge in shots Tuesday at Clarion.

Freshmen have recorded all the points for SRU so far this year, with Andrea Felix leading the way with two goals and one assist. Dara Demich has the only other goal for The Rock, while Sam Thornton has one assist to cap the scorers.

Slippery Rock's back line is anchored by All-Region defenders Lauren Impey and Izabel Scott.

Scouting the Crimson Hawks: Indiana is outshooting opponents 42-14 and outscoring the opposition 9-2 through three games.

The Hawks are led by Brittney Kuhns with four goals and one assist, while Tonya Fabian and Kelsey Fisher each have two goals.

Anna-Kate DePaolo leads the team with three assists and Casey Reber caps the goal scorers with one goal. Kate Numer and Haily Emrick cap the point scorers with one assist each.

Goalkeepers: All-Region keeper Dana O'Neill has played every minute in goal for SRU and is 1-0-1 with a 0.90 goals against average and a .714 save percentage.

Mara Hricik has started all three games in goal for Indiana and is 2-1-0 with a 0.80 goals against average and a .778 save percentage.

Head Coaches: Noreen Herlihy is in her 19th season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. She has led the team to 17 consecutive winning seasons and owns a career record of 225-103-28. Herlihy is a 1992 graduate of Mercyhurst College with a bachelor's degree in sports medicine. She also owns a master's degree in sports administration from Slippery Rock.

Adel Heder is in his 13th season as the head coach at Indiana, where he has led the team to a record of 148-77-15. Under his direction, Indiana has finished the last 10 seasons with a winning record. His only year with a losing record at IUP was in 2002, his second season with the program.

Series: Slippery Rock owns a 16-12-2 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams, including a 2-0 victory last season here at Slippery Rock.

Last Time: (Box Score) Kara Mullins scored a goal and added an assist as Slippery Rock handed Indiana a 2-0 defeat at Egli Field, Sept. 19, 2012.

Shelby Ward also scored for Slippery Rock, which finished the game with advantages of 14-11 in total shots and 3-2 in shots on goal. Both teams were awarded three corner kicks.

Dana O'Neill earned the shutout in goal for The Rock with two saves. Mara Hricik took the loss for IUP after allowing two goals and recording one save.

PSAC Gets Deeper: With the addition of Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown to the PSAC this year, the league now has 17 women's soccer teams, meaning nearly every game on the 2013 schedule will count in the PSAC standings. SRU will only play one non-conference game this season when it travels to Davis & Elkins Sept. 21.
