CLARION, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team dominated possession and every statistical edge on the field, but came away with a 1-1 double overtime draw Tuesday night at Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

The Golden Eagles scored on their only shot on target of the game and were held without a single shot on goal for the final 81 minutes of regulation and overtime.

Slippery Rock fired 20 total shots and 13 shot on goal en route to posting advantages of 20-5 in shots, 13-1 in shots on target and 8-4 in corner kicks.

With the tie, The Rock improves to 1-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in PSAC action to open the year. Clarion improves to 2-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the PSAC after posting wins over conference newcomers Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown last week.

The tie is only the second in the series between the two teams, a series that Slippery Rock has never lost in. The Rock now own a 17-0-2 all-time record against Clarion.

The Golden Eagles scored on their only shot on goal of the match in the 29th minute when Stephanie Sikora converted off an assist from Liz Ventura to put the hosts up 1-0.

Less than two minutes later, Slippery Rock freshman Andrea Felix tied the game at 1-1 with her second goal in as many games.

The Rock pushed forward and posted an 8-1 advantage in total shots in the first half and continued that pressure with an 8-4 edge in total shots in the second half, but could not find the back of the net.

Clarion managed no shots and no corner kick attempts in either overtime session, while Slippery Rock registered four shots and two corner kicks, including an attempt from Cailin Conner that was saved as the final horn sounded in the second extra session. Conner matched Clarion's entire team in total shots with five, including four on goal.

Golden Eagle goalkeeper Laura Saussol has been the leader of the Clarion team through three games and she nearly single-handedly kept The Rock from winning the game Tuesday night. She finished with 12 saves to preserve the tie.

Rock keeper Dana O'Neill faced five total shots and was not forced to make a save after the lone Clarion goal.

Entering Tuesday night's game, Slippery Rock was ranked No. 1 in the latest Atlantic Region rankings, while Clarion was ranked sixth.

The Rock returns to action Saturday when they host Indiana (Pa.) in a PSAC match at 2 p.m. on Egli Field. That match is sandwiched between the annual Village Fest that will take place in downtown Slippery Rock that morning and the kickoff of The Rock's first home football game of the year at 6 p.m.
