Shippensburg Statistics
CLERMONT, FLA. – Slippery Rock University softball split their final day of spring break play defeating the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 3-0 and losing to Shippensburg University 10-0 in Clermont, Florida.
Emily Lobdell earned the win over MIT and allowed only two hits from 22 batters.
Senior
Katie Saluga continued her streak at bat and had all three RBIs in the 3-0 victory. She had two doubles and a single, going 3-3 at bat.
The game started off slow with no runs being scored until the bottom of the third inning. Saluga doubled and scored
Taylor Welch and
Megan Maloney, giving The Rock the 2-0 advantage.
Slippery Rock had three straight defensive innings of three up three down and only saw three batters on base.
In the top of the second inning
Katie Kaiser earned or assisted all three outs for The Rock.
Lobdell is now 2-2 on the mound.
In game two, The Rock faced Shippensburg University and couldn't get a ball to drop in their favor. While SRU continued to make contact Shippensburg proved to have better luck at the plate, scoring eight runs alone in the bottom of the third inning.
Shippensburg saw three different Rock pitchers with
Ashley Knight being credited for the loss.
Amy Erickson stepped in for Knight in the bottom of the third and
Bethany Beutel got some time on the mound relieving Erickson in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Slippery Rock had the opportunity to send in some fresh faces at the plate with freshmen
Megan Frisco and
Sarah Lindvay getting their first collegiate at bats. Sophomore
Abby Heller also stepped in to swing for The Rock in the top of the fifth inning.
The game ended early with Shippensburg winning 10-0, their record now improves to 17-4.
Slippery Rock's Record is now 6-8. The Rock will face Edinboro University on March 29 and Gannon University on March 30, both games will be played in Erie, Pa.
