Rock falls to UMD and IUP in Florida

Slippery Rock fell to Minnesota Duluth 13-0 and Indiana 5-4 Thursday at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University women's softball team returned to action at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont Thursday afternoon and dropped a pair of games, falling 13-0 in six innings to Minnesota Duluth and dropping a 5-4 decision to Indiana (Pa.).

Slippery Rock has now dropped six straight games in Clermont after opening the spring break trip with a pair of wins. The Rock saw their season record slip to 3-7 overall with four games remaining in Florida. SRU will play Kutztown and the New York Institute of Technology Friday and will play the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Shippensburg Saturday.

Thursday's opener was all Duluth after the Bulldogs plated two runs in the first inning and never looked back. Megan Mullen and Cayli Snyder combined to throw a no-hitter and the offense added 11 runs in the final three innings off 18 total hits.

Mullen threw five innings of no-hit ball and struck out seven while walking one. Snyder threw the final inning and struck out one.

Ashley Knight took the loss in game one for SRU after allowing seven runs in five innings and striking out three. Kayla Parcetich allowed six runs in the sixth inning and Abby Heller came in to record all three outs of the sixth inning, allowing just one hit.

Slippery Rock trailed 5-2 after five innings in the second game of the day and plated one run in each of the last four innings, but could not complete the comeback in falling 5-4 to IUP.

Katie Kaiser had two hits, scored two runs and had one RBI to lead The Rock at the plate, while Alaynna Beers added two hits and Taylor Welch and Megan Maloney each recorded one RBI.

Indiana was led by a two-RBI performance from Ashley Strack and got single RBIs from Jasa Mitchell, Stef Poates and Jen Beaver.

Ashley Knight took the loss on the mound for Slippery Rock after she relieved Emily Lobdell in the fourth inning with the score tied at 2-2. Lobdell allowed two runs and struck out four batters in three innings. Knight allowed three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Slippery Rock is back in action in Clermont Friday at 3 p.m. against Kutztown.
