Rock women host Clarion Wednesday night

Slippery Rock will open the second round of PSAC West play when Clarion visits Morrow Field House Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. game.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team welcomes Clarion Wednesday night at 6 p.m. for the first game of the second round of divisional play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game with a 4-15 overall record and a 3-12 mark in league games. The Rock is riding a six-game losing streak and is coming off a loss at Indiana Saturday.

Clarion enters the game with a 10-11 overall record and a 6-9 mark in league games. The Golden Eagles are coming off an upset win over No. 21 Edinboro, 56-55, last Saturday.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is scoring 57.3 points per game and allowing opponents 71.4 points per game.

The Rock is shooting 35.6 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from beyond the 3-point line and 61.2 percent at the free throw line. Opponents average 40.7 percent from the field, 30.6 percent from long range and 69.8 percent at the charity stripe.

Erinne Cunningham leads the team with 11.0 points per game and also has a team-high 32 steals. D'Asia Chambers scores 9.5 points and grabs a team-high 6.2 rebounds per game. Emilee Vitez adds 3.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

Scouting the Golden Eagles: Clarion is scoring 64.6 points per game and allowing 68.4 points per game.

The Golden Eagles are shooting 41.5 percent from the field, 28.9 percent from beyond the 3-point line and 68.5 percent at the free throw line. Opponents average 39.3 percent from the field, 32.2 percent from long range and 70.5 percent at the charity stripe.

Hannah Heeter leads the team with per game averages of 14.3 points and 12.8 rebounds. Raven Jones adds 8.0 points and 2.9 assists per game. Tania Holmes adds 7.7 points per game and Mariah Gador adds 7.3 points per game.

Series: Clarion leads the all-time series 35-34. The Golden Eagles earned a 75-53 win earlier this season to break the tie in the series. Last season, the two teams split their meetings.

Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her third season as the head coach at Slippery Rock. Longo has taken on a rebuilding project with the program and has posted a record of 13-58 in her tenure at SRU. Longo came to Slippery Rock after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Southern Illinois. Longo owns a 1-4 record in five games against Clarion.

Margaret “Gie” Parsons is in her 24th year as the head coach at Clarion, where she is the all-time winningest coach with a career record of 338-316. She is a four-time PSAC West Coach of the Year honoree and was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame's Western Chapter.

Homecoming: Both of Clarion's coaches, Margaret Parsons and assistant coach Laurel Heilman, are Slippery Rock graduates. Heilman is a member of the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame after playing point guard on The Rock's only PSAC championship team (1985-86). She also served as the head coach of the SRU women's basketball team from 2000-2010, winning 110 games in that stretch.

Last Meeting: (Box Score) Clarion defeated Slippery Rock 75-53 Dec. 8 in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Clarion got 16 points and 10 rebounds from Hannah Heeter, 14 points from Ann Deibert, 11 points from Raven Jones and 10 points from Mariah Gador.

Slippery Rock was led by a 10-point, 11 rebound performance from Jazmyne Frost. Emilee Vitez added nine points and seven rebounds and Alexis Mayo chipped in seven points in her first career start. SRU's leading scorer, Erinne Cunningham, sat out the game with an injury.
