Rock visits Cal U Wednesday night

Slippery Rock will look to snap a streak of 22 consecutive losses to California (Pa.) when The Rock travels to meet the Vulcans Wednesday night in PSAC West action.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team will travel to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division rival California (Pa.) Wednesday night for the third-to-last game of the 2013 season. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game with a 4-19 overall record and a 3-16 mark in league games. The Rock is riding a 10-game losing streak and is coming off a loss to No. 21 Edinboro Saturday. California owns a 16-7 overall record and a 12-7 mark in league games. The Vulcans are 6-2 in their last eight games, including an upset over then sixth-ranked Gannon.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is scoring 59.7 points per game and allowing opponents 72.7 points per game.

The Rock is shooting 35.8 percent from the field, 24.5 percent from beyond the 3-point line and 63.0 percent at the free throw line.

Opponents average 40.5 percent from the field, 30.7 percent from long range and 71.7 percent at the charity stripe.

Erinne Cunningham leads the team with 11.9 points per game and also has a team-high 41 steals. Alexas Brown adds 9.9 points and 3.8 assists per game and D'Asia Chambers scores 9.5 points and grabs a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game. Simone Aladenoye adds 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and Erica Aiello chips in 5.3 points and 2.8 assists per game.

Christa Wodarczyk is 18-of-24 (75%) from the field and an incredible 13-of-16 (81.2%) from beyond the 3-point line over the last five games.

Scouting the Vulcans: California is scoring 66.7 points per game and allowing 59.1 points per game.

The Vulcans are shooting 38.9 percent from the field, 24.8 percent from beyond the 3-point line and 69.5 percent at the free throw line.

Opponents average 40.0 percent from the field, 26.5 percent from long range and 71.6 percent at the charity stripe.

Stephanie Michael leads the team in scoring at 13.7 points per game. Emma Mahady chips in 9.7 points per game. Ashley Hines adds 9.5 points and leads the team with 7.4 rebounds per game.

Irina Kukolj adds 7.7 points and Ryah Gadson adds 7.1 points per game. Kate Seebohm leads the team and ranks second in the PSAC with 118 assists (5.1 per game).

Series: California leads the all-time series 43-23. The Vulcans have won the last 22 consecutive games in the series. The last Slippery Rock win came at home during the 2001-02 season. Earlier this season, California earned a 75-58 win at Morrow Field House.

Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her third season as the head coach at Slippery Rock. Longo has taken on a rebuilding project with the program and has posted a record of 13-62 in her tenure at SRU. She came to Slippery Rock after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Southern Illinois. Longo owns a 0-5 record in five games against California.

Jess Strom is in her second season as the head coach at California, where she owns a career record of 29-14. Strom was a standout player at Penn State, earning All-Conference honors for the Lady Lions. She owns a 3-0 record against Slippery Rock.

Last Meeting: (Box Score) California jumped out to a 14 point halftime lead and went on to earn a 75-58 win at SRU Jan. 23.

That game is still the best shooting performance of the year for SRU, which shot 50 percent from the field (26-of-52). The Vulcans took 22 more attempts (31-of-74).

Elena Antonenko recorded a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds for Cal. Emma Mahady added 14 points, while Kate Seebohm chipped in 12 and Ashley Hines added 10.

Alexas Brown led all scorers with 18 points and Erinne Cunningham chipped in 14 points to lead Slippery Rock.

Next Up: The Rock will host Indiana for Senior Day Saturday at 1 p.m. before closing the year at No. 9 Gannon next Wednesday.
