ALBANY, N.Y. – The 12th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team saw its historic playoff run come to an end Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to No. 13 American International College in the NCAA Division II Tournament quarterfinals at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Rock were playing in the quarterfinals for the first time in program history and finish the 2013 season with an overall record of 15-4-2. American International advances to the NCAA Final Four with an overall record of 18-2-2.

"I can't say enough about how proud I am of these women and what they accomplished this year," said head coach Noreen Herlihy. "We've got so many young players with so little experience and this team just kept battling and finding ways to win. I am very proud of this team."

Slippery Rock managed to contain the high scoring Yellow Jackets for nearly the entire first half before leading goal scorer Sonia Basma broke through with a chip-in shot with just under six minutes to play.

That goal would be the only one AIC would need, as The Rock offense struggled to find chances on a frigid day. The wind chill during the game was at just 4 degrees with winds over 30 miles per hour.

Adding to the woes on offense for Slippery Rock was the absence of leading scorer Andrea Felix, who has not been able to play in the NCAA Tournament due to illness.

American International posted advantages of 18-2 in total shots, 11-0 in shots on goal and 5-1  in corner kicks.

Slippery Rock senior goalkeeper Dana O'Neill made nine saves in her final collegiate game.

American International goalkeeper Sam Tabak earned her 16th shutout of the season and was not forced to make a save.

Slippery Rock has now played in the NCAA Tournament nine times, including each of the last four years, and has made it to the NCAA Round of 16 twice and to the quarterfinals in the last three years.

Sunday's game marked the final game in the outstanding careers of seniors O'Neill, Lauren Impey, Izabel Scott and Ali Brosky, who will leave the program as one of the winningest classes in school history.

The Rock has now put together 18 consecutive winning seasons and 16 straight with 10 or more wins, which is the eighth best streak of its kind in Division II history.
