ALBANY, N.Y. -- The 12th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will play No. 13 American International College in the NCAA quarterfinals Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany, N.Y.
Tickets: Ticket prices are set by the NCAA at $7 for adults, $3 for all students and $1 for children between the ages of 2-12.
Live Coverage: The College of Saint Rose sports information office will provide live statistics and is planning to show a live video stream of the game. The SRU sports information office will also provide live updates through the official Slippery Rock Twitter account (@Rock_Athletics).
National Rankings: Slippery Rock was ranked 12th in the final NSCAA Division II national rankings of the regular season. American International was ranked No. 13
How They Got Here: The two lower seeds in the Super Region walked away with shutout wins in the Sweet 16 Friday. Slippery Rock won the Atlantic Region title with a 3-0 win over No. 6 California (Pa.) and American International defeated No. 4 Saint Rose 2-0 to reach the quarterfinals. The Rock defeated No. 24 Shippensburg 2-1 in overtime in the second round, while AIC defeated Bridgeport 2-0 in the second round.
On the Line: The winner of Sunday's game advances to the NCAA Final Four in two weeks in Georgia.
Forecast: The weather could play a major factor in the game. The forecast for Albany Sunday is currently a high temperature of just 28 degrees with winds north of 20 miles per hour and gusts up to 40 mph expected. Snow is also in the forecast.
Records: Slippery Rock enters the NCAA quarterfinals with an overall record of 15-3-2. American International enters the game with an overall record of 17-2-2.
Unfamiliar Foes: Slippery Rock and American International have never met in the sport of women's soccer. The only sports at the schools that play on a regular basis are the field hockey programs.
First Time: This marks the first time in Slippery Rock history that The Rock has advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
Rock-Solid Tradition: Slippery Rock has put together 18 consecutive winning seasons and 16 straight with more than 10 wins. The 18 straight winning records ranks 8th in Division II history. 2013 marks the 20th anniversary of the program's beginning in 1993.
Postseason Glory: SRU has won three PSAC titles, is playing in its ninth NCAA Tournament and has reached at least the Round of 16 for three consecutive years. The Rock has earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament in four consecutive seasons.
Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 40-11 and outshooting the opposition 261-150.
SRU has been impressive when considering the youth of the key contributors, as a pair of freshmen are the leading scorers and two freshmen start on the back line.
Andrea Felix leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and five assists, while
Dara Demich is the top goal scorer with 11 goals, including two in the win over California Friday.
Nicole Krueger has tallied four goals and one assist and
Lauren Impey has scored three goals and handed out a team-high five assists.
Allison Harbart,
Crysta Ganter and
Cailin Conner each have two goals and three assists and
Ali Brosky has two goals and two assists to cap the top scorers.
The Rock's back four of Impey,
Izabel Scott,
Marissa Scullin and
Lynn Neef has allowed just 62 shots on goal in 20 games, an average of only 3.1 per game.
Dana O'Neill has started 17 games in goal for SRU and is 12-3-1 with a 0.59 goals against average and a .796 save percentage.
Top Netminder: O'Neill was voted for the 2nd year in a row as the top goalkeeper in the PSAC by the league's head coaches, earning first team All-PSAC honors. She ranks second among all active players in Division II in career shutouts with 29 and has moved up into a tie for 16th in the Division II record book in career shutouts this fall. She was also the only Division II keeper selected to the NSCAA All-Academic team last year.
Rookie of the Year: Andrea Felix was named the PSAC Freshman of the Year this fall in voting by the league head coaches.
Defender of the Year: Lauren Impey was named the PSAC Defensive Player of the Year by the league head coaches.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets: American International is outscoring opponents 56-6 through 21 games and outshooting the opposition 492-136 in total shots and 221-54 in shots on goal.
Sonia Basma spearheads the potent attack with an impressive 47 points on 18 goals and 11 assists. Caroline Boyce has added nine goals and 10 assists, Mariah Shade has seven goals and five assists and Alyssa Werbicki has six goals and four assists to cap the top scorers.
Like Slippery Rock, AIC boasts the Northeast-10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Year in Alie Fitzsimmons.
Samantha Tabak has recorded 25 shutouts over the last two years as the starting keeper for AIC. She has 15 shutouts this season and owns a 0.30 goals against average, an .885 save percentage and a 15-2-2 record.
AIC in the Playoffs: American International is making its second straight trip to the NCAA playoffs and avenged a second round loss last season to Saint Rose with the win Friday.
Sweet 16 SRU Recap: Dara Demich scored two goals and
Lauren Impey added a third, all in the second half, as The Rock defeated California for the fourth consecutive time Friday in the Round of 16.
Dana O'Neill posted a shutout with three saves for SRU and The Rock managed a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.
Sweet 16 AIC Recap: Mariah Shade scored two goals in the first half and Sam Tabak made three saves to earn a 2-0 shutout over hosting Saint Rose, which dropped its first game of the year.
Both teams managed 12 total shots and five corner kicks in the game. American International posted a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
SRU Head Coach: Noreen Herlihy is in her 19th season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. She has led the team to 18 consecutive winning seasons and owns a career record of 239-106-29 at SRU.
AIC Head Coach: Matt Johnson is in his eighth season as the head coach at American International, where he has taken the team from a near winless program to an NCAA contender. He has led the team to the NCAA playoffs three times and is in the middle of his best run. Johnson owns a career record of 75-69-11
