Rock visits Cal U Saturday afternoon

Slippery Rock will look to record first win of season at California (Pa.) when The Rock travels to meet the Vulcans Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team continues play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division when The Rock travels to meet the Vulcans Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. tip.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game with a 0-4 overall record and is 0-1 in the PSAC West after falling to Clarion 95-80 Wednesday night.

California also enters the contest with a 0-4 overall record and 0-1 mark in the PSAC West. The Vulcans are coming off a 73-64 loss to No. 2 Gannon Wednesday night.

Preseason Polls: Slippery Rock was picked to finish ninth in the PSAC-West this year by the league's head coaches. California received one first-place vote and was slated to finish third in the PSAC-West.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is scoring 71.3 points per game and allowing 86.0 points per game.

The Rock is shooting 38.5 percent from the field, 26.1 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 64.9 percent at the free throw line. Opponents shoot 43.1 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from long range and 76.5 percent at the free throw line.

Jazmyne Frost leads the team with per game averages of 19.5 points and 10.8 rebounds while shooting 67.4 percent from the floor. Alexas Brown is averaging 15.0 points, Aidan Geise chips in 13.5 points per game and Erica Aiello adds 9.3 points and 5.3 assists per game. D'Asia Chambers averages 7.3 points per game and adds 8.8 rebounds per game.

Against Clarion earlier this week, Frost tallied 21 points and 12 rebounds and Geise added a career-high 18 points, five 3-pointers and eight rebounds.

Scouting the Vulcans: California is scoring 65.8 points per game and allowing 77.0 points per game.

The team is shooting 33.5% from the field, 32.5% from 3-point and 74.4% from the free throw line. Opponents are shooting 49.0% from the floor, 35.9% from long range and 71.8% at the free throw line.

Emma Mahady leads the team with 13.3 points per game. Miki Glenn adds 9.5 points per game, Elena Antonenko averages 9.0 points per game and Ryah Gadson chips in 8.3 points per game. Ashley Hines averages 7.0 points per game and leads the team with 5.0 rebounds per game.

Series: California owns a 44-23 advantage in the all-time series.

Last Meeting: (Box Score) The Vulcans earned a 78-55 victory over The Rock in the last meeting between the two teams last season.

The Rock was paced by Simone Aladenoye with 10 points and seven rebounds. Erinne Cunningham added 10 points and three assists.

California had three players score in double-digits, led by Stephanie Michael's game-high 20 points. Chelsea McKnight added 13 points and Elena Antonenko recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Rock shot 29.6 percent from the field, 25.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 69.6 percent from the charity stripe. The Vulcans shot 38.2 percent from the field, 35.0 percent from long-range and 60% from the free throw line.

Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Slippery Rock program, where she owns a record of 13-68. She is the eighth head coach in the program's history. Longo was inducted into the athletic Hall of Fame this year at her Alma Mater, Wisconsin Eau Claire, in honor of her excellent collegiate playing career. She is married to Rock football offensive coordinator Phil Longo.

Jess Strom is in her third season as the head coach at California, where she owns a career record of 36-16. Strom was a standout player at Penn State, earning All-Conference honors for the Lady Lions. She owns a 4-0 record against Slippery Rock.
