SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team will open play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Wednesday when Clarion visits Morrow Field House for a 6 p.m. tip.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game with a 0-3 overall record and is coming off an 83-63 loss at Urbana Sunday.
Clarion owns a 1-1 record entering the game and is coming off a 104-88 win over West Liberty Saturday.
Preseason Polls: Slippery Rock was picked to finish ninth in the PSAC-West this year by the league's head coaches. Clarion was picked to finish sixth in the division.

The team is shooting 46.7% from the field, 28.6% from 3-point and 50.0% from the free throw line. Opponents are shooting 46.8% from the floor, 42.6% from long range and 53.8% at the free throw line.
Emma Fickel leads the team with 21.0 points per game. Kelly Johnson adds 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Tania Holmes chips in 12.5 points per game and Raven Jones adds 11.0 points per game. Clarion is currently playing without its best player from last season, Hannah Heeter, as she is still playing with the PSAC-West champion Clarion volleyball team in the postseason.
Coaching Connection: Both of Clarion's coaches are Slippery Rock alums and both spent time as a member of the coaching staff. Head coach Gie Parsons was a graduate assistant at The Rock in the early 1980s and assistant coach Laurel Heilman was the head coach for 10 years and is in the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame for her efforts as a player. She was an All-PSAC point guard on SRU's only PSAC championship team in 1986.
Series: Clarion owns a 36-34 advantage in the all-time series, including a 74-68 win in the last meeting, Feb. 6, 2013 at SRU.

Clarion was paced by a 15-point, 14-rebound double-double from Hannah Heeter and 14 points from Tania Holmes.
The Rock shot 39.1 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from beyond the 3-point arc after hitting 13 long range shots, but made just 1-of-7 free throws. Clarion was 40.0 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from 3-point and 11-of-14 at the free throw line.
Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Slippery Rock program, where she owns a record of 13-68. She is the eighth head coach in the program's history. Longo was inducted into the athletic Hall of Fame this year at her Alma Mater, Wisconsin Eau Claire, in honor of her excellent collegiate playing career. She is married to Rock football offensive coordinator Phil Longo.
Margaret "Gie" Parsons is in her 25th year as the head coach at Clarion, where has been named the PSAC-West Coach of the Year on four occasions. Parsons was twice named the Regional Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Western Chapter of the PA Sports Hall of Fame. She owns a career record at Clarion of 342-322.
Next Up: Slippery Rock travels to California (Pa.) for a PSAC-West game Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and then travels to Lourdes University Nov. 30 for a 3 p.m. game. The Rock returns home Dec. 4 to host No. 2 Gannon at 6 p.m.
