SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team (10-25, 5-17) dropped a 3-0 decision in its season finale to Clarion (30-3, 20-2) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon in Morrow Field House.

Sarah Beals were honored in the final match of their Slippery Rock careers.
The PSAC-West leading Golden Eagles jumped on The Rock early, taking a commanding 16-5 lead in the opening frame. Rojek capped off a 14-8 run for Slippery Rock that brought the hosts within striking distance, but Clarion held on to record a 25-19 victory in the first set.
Clarion got off to another fast start in the second set, forcing SRU to call a timeout trailing 11-3. The Rock answered with a 9-3 run to climb back into the match, highlighted by consecutive emphatic rejections from
Michelle Hren. The Golden Eagles answered with a run of their own and eventually won the set 25-17 to take a 2-0 match advantage.
The teams battled back-and-forth in the third set before Clarion utilized a 7-1 run to gain control of the frame. The Golden Eagles would hold on for a 25-18 set victory to win the match in straight sets.
Houston led The Rock with nine kills, followed by
Kristy Lake with seven kills and
Kayla Byler with four kills.
Fleagle recorded a team-high 14 assists, followed by
Janna Reilly with 12 helpers. Houston and Woo led the defensive effort with 19 and 17 digs, respectively.
Hren recorded four kills and tallied eight blocks. She finishes the season with 141 total blocks, the second highest single-season total in SRU history. The single-season record for blocks, done by Megan Smith in 2004, is safe for another year at 153.
Carlie Bieranowski had a monster game for the visiting Golden Eagles, tallying 16 kills on a .395 attack percentage. Hannah Heeter and Emily Stewart each recorded seven kills to round out the top attackers for Clarion.
With the loss, Slippery Rock finishes the season at 10-25 overall and 5-17 in the PSAC.
