Lake powers Rock over Edinboro, 3-1

Kristy Lake’s 14 kills led The Rock to a 3-1 victory over Edinboro Tuesday night in Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team (9-11, 4-3) powered past Edinboro (12-7, 5-2) 3-1 Tuesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action in Morrow Field House.

The Rock fell in the first set, 25-22 and trailed 11-7 early in the second frame before Kayla Woo served seven straight points to take the lead. Slippery Rock would go on to win the second set 25-22 and carried the momentum into the third, where Janna Reilly served seven straight points of her own in a dominating 25-13 set victory for The Rock.

Slippery Rock continued its stellar play in the fourth set and sealed the 3-1 victory on a kill from Caroline Houston to win the set 25-19.

Kristy Lake had a monster game for The Rock, recording 14 kills, a .400 attack percentage and three total blocks. Houston added 11 kills and Sarah Beals chipped in nine kills to round out the attack leaders for Slippery Rock.

Reilly led the team with 23 assists and Alexandra Fleagle chipped in 15 assists.

Houston led the team with 17 digs, Woo added 15 digs and Michelle Hren had five blocks to lead the defensive effort for The Rock.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 9-11 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC, while the Fighting Scots drop to 12-7 overall and 5-2 in the PSAC.

The Rock will host Seton Hill in its annual "Dig for the Cure" event Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in Morrow Field House to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research.
