SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 14th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team won its eighth consecutive game Wednesday with a 2-0 shutout over Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The game was streamed live in HD to a national audience by Tourbeau Sports as the NSCAATV National Game of the Week.

The win guarantees The Rock will host a home playoff game in the quarterfinals and for the time being, still leaves the possibility of winning the PSAC regular season title in play.

Slippery Rock currently sits second in the league standings with records of 13-2-1 overall and 12-2-1 in the PSAC. California leads the league with a 13-1 record and was tied with Shippensburg at halftime at the time of this release.

If Slippery Rock and California finish with the same points in the standings, The Rock would own the No. 1 seed by way of their win over the Vulcans earlier this fall. SRU would need to beat Shippensburg Saturday and have California either lose both of its games or lose one and tie the other.

Wednesday's win also is likely to keep Slippery Rock at No. 1 in the Atlantic Region in the eyes of the NCAA Selection Committee, which announced their updated regional rankings Wednesday during the game.

SRU is still the No. 1 team in the region, followed by California at No. 2, Shippensburg at No. 3, Gannon at No. 4, Indiana at No. 5 and Notre Dame (Ohio) at No. 6.  The top six teams in the rankings Nov. 10 will earn a berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Wednesday's game was all Slippery Rock from the outset as The Rock scored in the 10th minute and never looked back.

SRU finished with advantages of 15-5 in total shots and 6-2 in shots on goal, while Millersville posted a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Dara Demich scored both goals for Slippery Rock to bring her season total to nine, just one behind Andrea Felix for the team lead. Ali Brosky and Caitlin Binder each picked up an assist in the win.

Dana O'Neill earned the shutout in goal with two saves for SRU, while Olivia Webber took the loss after recording four saves for the Marauders.

Demich opened the game's scoring in the 10th minute when she scored from the right side after taking a pass from Brosky to put The Rock up 1-0.

The 1-0 margin stood until 10 minutes into the second half when Demich added an insurance tally from 35 yards out after Webber came out to challenge the play. Binder was credited with an assist on the play.

Wednesday marked the final regular season home game of 2013.

Slippery Rock will close out the regular season on the road at Shippensburg Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. game.

The Rock's PSAC quarterfinal opponent will be known Saturday evening. Game time for the quarterfinal home match will be announced Sunday or Monday.
