LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team (9-15, 4-7) dropped a pair of matches Friday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover action, falling to both Lock Haven (16-8, 7-5) and Millersville (9-10, 5-6).
The Rock opened the day with a tough 3-2 loss to Lock Haven. Lock Haven won the first set 25-20 before Slippery Rock stormed back with a 26-24 win in the second. The teams exchanged blows in the upcoming sets, as Lock Haven took the third set 25-16 and The Rock answered with a 25-20 win in the fourth. Lock Haven jumped out to an early lead in the fifth and cruised to a 15-7 win to take the match 3-2.
Slippery Rock was led by
Caroline Houston, who recorded 18 kills with a .277 attack percentage, while
Kristy Lake added 11 kills.
The Rock recorded 17 blocks, led by
Michelle Hren with six and
Sarah Beals with five.
Kayla Woo tallied a team-high 29 digs and
Janna Reilly chipped in 18 assists.
Four players recorded double digit kills for LHU, led by Kaleigh Hudak with 14 and Bailey Farthing and Cody Anderson with 12 apiece.
In the nightcap, The Rock opened the match by outdueling Millersville 29-27. The Marauders answered with a dominant 25-13 win in the second set, before carrying the momentum into a 27-25 win in the third and 25-22 win in the fourth to take the match 3-1.
Lake and Hren led the team with 10 kills apiece, while Houston added nine kills to cap the top attackers for Slippery Rock.
Woo led the defensive effort with 18 digs. The Rock recorded 18 total blocks, led again by Hren with six. Beals added four blocks and
Kayla Byler chipped in three blocks.
Reilly tallied a team-high 24 assists and 2 service aces in the loss.
Three Marauders recorded double digit kills, led by Katie Lesinski with 16 and Rebecca Roman with 15. Taylor Smith recorded six of Millersville's 13 service aces.
The losses drop Slippery Rock's record to 9-15 overall and 4-7 in the PSAC. The Rock has a quick turnaround, facing Pitt-Johnstown (10 a.m.) and Shippensburg (3:30 p.m.) tomorrow in day two of the PSAC crossover.
