SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team (9-12, 4-4) fell in straight sets to Seton Hill (16-5, 5-3) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Friday night at Morrow Field House.
The teams battled back and forth in the opening frame and were knotted up at 16-16 before the Griffins went on a 9-1 charge to take the match 25-17. Slippery Rock fell behind early in the second set and were not able to recover, falling 25-15.
The Rock trailed early in the third set before
Kayla Woo served two straight aces to spark a run that gave Slippery Rock an 18-16 lead before Seton Hill answered with a 9-2 run to close the match 25-20.
Kristy Lake led the team with 10 kills and a .348 attack percentage.
Caroline Houston tallied six kills and 10 digs, while
Kayla Byler added five kills to cap the attack leaders for Slippery Rock.
Woo had 13 digs and Byler recorded three blocks to lead the defensive effort for The Rock.
Seton Hill had three players record nine or more kills, led by Cassie Hausfeld with 11, Shelby Kyllo with 10 and Corrine Gahagen with nine. Courtney Field had 35 assists, Lauren Teed tallied 21 digs and Kyllo added six blocks.
With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 9-12 overall and 4-4 in the PSAC-West. Seton Hill improved to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in the PSAC-West.
Tonight's match was the eighth annual Dig for the Cure event, with this year's money being raised for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. The PA Breast Cancer Coalition is an organized statewide non-profit designed to extend public awareness of breast cancer, and to encourage increased public and private funding for research, legislative advocacy and high quality screening, diagnosis and treatment.
