BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The 24th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team earned its fifth shutout of the year with a 2-0 victory at Bloomsburg Friday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
The win is the second in a row for Slippery Rock, which saw its season records improve to 7-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in league games. Bloomsburg dropped to 5-7 overall and 3-7 in PSAC games with the loss.
The Rock got points from four different players with
Crysta Ganter and
Nicole Krueger each recording their second goal of the year and
Cailin Conner and
Lauren Impey recording assists.
Dana O'Neill earned her third shutout of the year in goal after recording five saves.
Bloomsburg keeper Danielle Fiorelli took the loss after recording four saves and allowing both goals.
Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 10-9 in total shots and 6-5 in shots on goal, while both teams were awarded two corner kicks.
Ganter opened the game's scoring in the 16th minute when she headed in a crossing pass from Impey to put The Rock up 1-0.
The 1-0 margin stood until halftime, despite Bloomsburg posting a 6-3 edge in shots in the opening period.
Slippery Rock wasted little time in adding to the lead in the second half when Krueger tallied a goal just 3:53 into the period after taking a crossing pass from Conner to make it 2-0.
The Rock posted a 7-3 edge in shots in the second period and finished the clean sheet by keeping the Huskies off the board.
Slippery Rock will have little time to rest and savor the win as it will play another road PSAC game Saturday at Lock Haven. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
