No. 11 Rock travels to No. 25 Gannon Wednesday

No. 11 Slippery Rock will travel to No. 25 Gannon Wednesday night for a PSAC clash between nationally ranked teams at 7 p.m.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 11th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will travel to No. 25 Gannon Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match between nationally ranked teams.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the game with an overall record of 5-1-1 and PSAC mark of 4-1-1. The Rock is riding a four-game winning streak with wins over Edinboro, Davis & Elkins, Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown, in which they are outscoring opponents 9-1. SRU has not allowed a goal in the last 306:25 of game play.

Gannon enters the game with overall and PSAC records of 5-2 and is coming off a pair of wins last weekend against quality opponents, defeating No. 9 Millersville 2-1 in overtime and defeating regionally ranked Shippensburg 2-0. Both games were played at home in Erie. 

Rankings: Slippery Rock has been ranked in four of the five national polls released this season, reaching as high as No. 8 and moving up 13 places to No. 11 in the latest rankings, which were announced Tuesday. Gannon moved into the rankings this week at No. 25.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 12-4 and outshooting the opposition 105-44. .

Freshman Andrea Felix leads the team with four goals and one assist, while fellow freshman Dara Demich ranks second in scoring with three goals and one assist. Allison Harbart has added one goal and two assists to rank third in scoring.

Caitlin Binder and Lauren Impey each have one goal and one assist and Nicole Krueger caps the goal scorers with one goal. Cailin Conner, Crysta Ganter, Sam Thornton and Ariana Daukss each have one assist to round out the point scorers.

The back four of Impey, Izabel Scott, Lynn Neef and Marissa Scullin have allowed just 21 shots on target in seven games.

Scouting the Golden Knights: Gannon is outscoring opponents 12-8, but is being outshot by opponents 92-85 in total shots and 47-39 in shots on goal.

Mani Bruckner leads the team with one goal and eight assists for 10 points, while Kaitlyn Kissell and Michelle Genetin each have three goals. Justine Rodrigues and Britney Barry each have one goal and one assist and Sammy Valloud, Ally Sharpe and Amanda Gallant each have one goal to cap the scorers.

Goalkeepers: Dana O'Neill is 4-1-1 with two shutouts, a 0.64 goals against average and a .789 save percentage in six games for SRU. Annabelle Hegeman played the full 90 minutes and earned a shutout with two saves at Davis & Elkins in her first collegiate appearance.

Sarah Geffel has played every minute in goal for Gannon and is 5-2 with a 1.14 goals against average and a .830 save percentage.

Series: Slippery Rock owns a 9-7 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams.

Last Time: (Box Score) Gannon, then ranked No. 24, defeated Slippery Rock 2-1 Oct. 24, 2012 in Erie.

The Golden Knights got goals from Amanda Gallant and Michelle Genetin and got three saves from Maggie Brinkman in goal.

Gannon posted an 11-9 edge in shots, while Slippery Rock posted a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Lauren Impey scored The Rock's long goal, while Dana O'Neill made four saves in goal for SRU.

Head Coaches: Noreen Herlihy, the reigning PSAC and Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, is in her 19th season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. She has led the team to 17 consecutive winning seasons and owns a career record of 229-104-28. The 17 straight winning seasons include 15 consecutive with at least 10 wins and ranks as the eighth-best streak in Division II history.

Colin Petersen is in his 12th season as the head coach at Gannon, where he has led the team to a total of 86 wins, which ranks as the most for any women's coach in Gannon's program history. He has led the team to a winning record in four of the last five seasons.

PSAC Gets Deeper: With the addition of Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown to the PSAC this year, the league now has 17 women's soccer teams, meaning nearly every game on the 2013 schedule will count in the PSAC standings. The only non-conference game for SRU this season was a 1-0 win at Davis & Elkins Sept. 21.
