Rock falls in final minute of 2OT to Cal U

California scored on its only chance of the second overtime session, handing Slippery Rock a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat with 47 seconds remaining.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – California University (Pa.) scored on its only chance of the second overtime to hand Slippery Rock University a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat with 47 seconds remaining in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's soccer action Friday.

The Rock was dominant in the second overtime session and held the Vulcans in one half of the field for nine minutes before a foul at midfield was called with just over a minute to play in the final extra session.

On the free kick, Kayla Fransko sent a long ball into the box, where Chelsea Crockett sent a ball through the box that found Haley Henderson on the far post to slip in the game-winner with 47 seconds left.

Slippery Rock posted a 6-1 advantage in shots in the overtime period, including a 4-1 edge in shots on goal, but Cal keeper Ashley Magruda made all four saves to keep  her team in the game.

The Rock finished the game with advantages of 19-18 in total shots, 8-6 in shots on goal and 8-3 in corner kicks.

Lucy Hannon opened the game's scoring with her fifth goal of the year at the 13:42 mark when she buried a shot from the left side after taking a pass from Lauren Impey.

The Vulcans tied the game at 1-1 in the 32nd minute when Jordan Gray converted off an assist from Erin Hogan.

The second half was a back and forth battle, with both teams generating chances, but neither team able to convert.

Magruda earned the win after recording seven saves, including four in the overtime sessions. Dana O”Neill took the loss after recording three saves. Emer Flatley was also credited with a team save after clearing the ball away from the goal line midway through the second half.

Slippery Rock is back in action tomorrow when it welcomes Shippensburg to Egli Field for a 1 p.m. game.
